The critics are getting boring because they change with the wind.

Last year they played the ugliest football I've seen and somehow survived. It stunk out the division. They were fortunate not to go down.

This year they are creating more opportunities than ever and just not taking them.

My conclusion is that the team just aren't good enough.

Warren saying that it's good football to watch they are just not sticking it in the onion bag.

I wasn't aware that Potter was playing up front.

He may as well be. Our top scorer in recent years can’t even get on the pitch when we are desperate for a goal. I’d be off if I was Murray.

This thread needs a troll exterminator. They’ve all slithered out the bowl trailing gleaming lines of utter shite after that shitshow defeat and are spreading their negativity all over this board. All the old favourites are out tonight. Anya, Enrest, T-Sop and that squealing baffoon Juniors. Just waiting for Storrington S-Gull to show and we’ll have the whole gang. Someone pass me the Troll-Gun and let’s clear this place the f*** up!

This thread is somewhat over the top. But in terms of a manager who appears to be sleepwalking us toward relegation it's hard to disagree.

A clueless mess, and we’ve got Potter for another 6 years, by the time he’s finished we’ll be in the Swedish 4th division

Just a teeny weeny bit of an over reaction methinks. I like your style though and expect a more in-depth rant when the shit really does hit the fan.

All the fans were happy with the 6 year contract. Everyone wanted to watch expansive football, well here it is!

You do know how contracts work in the football industry?

That did make me laugh, but come on, let’s enjoy our misery tonight, it’s cathartic!

Even the most grounded must be worried about how we score so few with so much possession but concede so often. We huff n puff take ages looking pretty then get a mental block about how to score when the opposition having been under the cosh break away and score at will.

Defence is a shadow of former seasons, midfield creates very little and we are still struggling yet again to score. Pretty on the eye yes but also more frustrating.

This sums it up.

We haven’t improved which is worrying our best season in the PL was our first. The core of the team is 3 years older and hasn’t been refreshed.

I enjoyed his 2 years in the Championship top 2/3 and 2 years of safety in the Premiership. Terrible last half of season, but who knows if he would have done worse with Potter's team this season. I am not so sure.

We played some great stuff in the championship, we played to our player's strengths. I never understood why we didn't continue that. We weren't playing overly expansive football under Hughton in the championship.

Would he have done worse? I think so, yes. Purely based on the form in the back end of last season.

That said, a poster (in another thread and I cannot remember the poster) made a really good point of Ashworth's arrival coinciding with our dire form. Could be coincidental, but at the same time makes you ponder.

Our youth programme wouldn't have changed over night to produce Alzate, Molumby, White and Connolly. So, he hasn't changed much there from a fan's point of view.

So it does make you wonder, with Ashworth's appointment and then Potter's very strange contract extension, what on earth is going on in the admin side of the club.

Not that I enjoyed it but felt he should have been given the beggining of the season at least for everything he has done for the club. Our team isn't good enough even with the new signings! The recruitment is terrible and had been for a while..

You’re one sad f-cker aren’t you? Is someone ever going to ban this Palace prick?

Palace or not, I agree with Anya. And if anyone cares to check back on my posts then please feel free.

Either:

A) you never saw us under Hyppia
B) you haven't seen us this season

If there had been internet forums 1987-1989, this is largely what ManUtd's would have looked like. :hilton:

This ... the only thing Hypia didn't try was having the players put their boots on the wrong foot and making them run backwards.

For all the things wrong at the moment (and there's plenty) likening Potter to Hypia is insulting and unnecessary

The contract extension at a time when the PL firing season started was probably a prudent move. I can't know but I'd hazard a guess he wasn't on a huge sum at Swansea, and most likely one of the lowest salaried in the PL (a guess on my part based on Hughton being one of the lowest too). So once we started getting results, and liked what we saw going on, a contract extension was probably a sensible thing to do.

Our youth programme wouldn't have changed overnight, but you or I cannot know how the coaching of the first team and youth players has changed internally. We've gone from wondering if any of them are good enough to knowing some of them definitely are. We've gone from people screaming for giving youth a chance last season, to now calling for them to go out on loan this season. You can't have it both ways - if you're bringing youth through it comes with risk and mistakes, if you cannot accept those, then you may as well give up any hope of bringing youth players through.

As for recruitment, Trossard looks a player, Mooy has been a strong addition, and Maupay just needs a couple to bounce in for him again. In the bottom half of the table out of 10 sides, only 2 have scored more goals, and we've conceded less goals then everyone in the bottom half including Arsenal in 10th.

So yeah, looks a bit bad at present because we're having a classic winter slump, but lets not get too bogged down in the mire because there are many positives from the season so far.

It's certainly not looking good. We need to go back to basics and start defending properly and drop the dire knocking it constantly round the back EVERY SINGLE TIME. We have been totally sussed out, just press us hard and crowd the middle of the park and we look totally clueless.

This 100%

All very valid points and I'm not disputing any of those; it was more of an observation than a statement. I'm not calling for Potter's head, but we sold this idea of tactical adaptability. All i've seen is a change of formation and change of players but no actual change in how we play.

My biggest concern is that we have players like Duffy not getting into the side because he doesn't fit Potter's style. But again, back to the point about Potter's alleged tactical adaptability, we've not seen enough of that adaptability.

If we ignore the adaptability, we don't know the starting line up. We only know a handful of guaranteed players on the team sheet. However, I can't see that being a positive. We need to just simply stick to a system, and have a fall back plan if it isn't working.

We've not seen that yet, and that's a concern.

Defence is a shadow of former seasons.

This really isn't factually correct.

After 24 PL matches:

2017/18 33 goals conceded
2018/19 36 goals conceded
2019/20 34 goals conceded
