That's all well and good Bozza but the fact is that he's still getting paid for 9 months for doing nothing, and presumably we're going to have to hire a replacement to cover the period when Jewell is non-productive so it's a lose, lose for the club. We're unlikely ever to become a top six club unless we seriously toughen up in this scenario and pay enough to keep our top talent.

Unless we get bought by a Royal Family from the Middle East, a Russian oligarch or a gigantic American investment firm then we’re never going to be able to consistently beat the Greed 6 (+ Newcastle).

If I’m entirely honest I think I’d rather the odd European campaign and a couple of cups under Bloom than 10 league titles whilst being used as a puppet to clear up the blood soaked image of a foreign dictatorship.

Simon does talk a lot of sense. And even though he's palace he understands the smaller clubs positions regarding this constant poaching, you can tell he despises chelsea, manure and the way they go about things.

I always try to focus on now, rather than reflecting on disappointments that have happened or what may or may not occur in the future. Right now we are playing some of the best football in the Premier League, have a plethora of really great young players and BHA is a renowned place for talent to progress. What a present Albion Supporters live in!!!!

Have Chelsea nicked them as well?!?

I'm super relaxed about Jewell going. I actually see it as an opportunity to get someone in who can take the role to the next level. Reading on the immediate succession plan the new role holders have a great CV and can probably do even more with Tonys supporting tools and network. Fresh blood can be hugely positive to bring in even more quality thinking. approach, and experience. The data is still going to spit out the right suggestions for in scope players.

Does such a well run club huge profit gain from its two best midfield players and not replace any of them with some ready to go talent?
We all love the club yet I do think some get blinded by the constant club PR message.

Progress is never going to be constantly achieved, sometimes we will have to go backwards to move forward again. There aren’t many clubs in the world that could source ready made replacements for Mac Allister and Moises and be guaranteed they’d hit the ground running. We may have gone slightly back performance wise this season, but we are only 4 points behind where we were last season. Take that into account along with the fact we lost 2 of our best players, have had a terrible injury record (as have a lot of clubs) and we’ve successfully navigated our way through to the last 16 of our first ever European campaign and I’ll certainly take that as a sign most of what we do on and off the pitch is right and there is still every chance we can qualify for Europe next season. Surely that would still be progress for a club like ours?

It's simply not regression imo, anyone expecting progression to be linear - ie better every season -is deluded. We'll have seasons of over performance (last season was, massively) and those where we don't do so well. Overall the long term trend remains on the up....

Excellent, thanks. And what it highlights is just as with players, Jewell became the skillful operator he is today because of our club. We provided him with the pathway, the exposure to different roles. He probably had nothing more unique than dozens of young analysts in the game, his USP is his education at the Albion. Bodes well.

Given the number of injuries we have/had, they probably need extra resources to look after all the crocked players!

Agreed. It must be a great place to work I would imagine, in that good work is rewarded by promotion and not just filling “dead mens shoes” and I know how depressing that can be!

It sounds like a dynamic, rewarding environment to work in and people usually move on in their careers. I believe young Jewell has been here for 8 years? Change of scene may do him some good and it opens up an opportunity for someone else. It sounds dangerously like the business side of Albion is being very well run which others probably envy. Of course we are going to be copied by others. That’s to be expected and accepted as praise! Sorry if that sounds smug and complacent but it is meant to be.

I agree it has been a miracle although our league form has suffered from a result there is no denying it. As RDZ has mentioned several times not many sides sell two of their top players without something coming the other way. The manager needed to freshen up the squad in January and I think we all knew it to. Barco may be an option although if he struggles like Mac did he won’t be an option.
Maybe Jewel left because he identified replacements and the club wouldn’t agree to signing them so he felt some what disillusioned for the effort he had put in, that side of the coin is something we may never know. We all think it was for extra buck maybe it wasn’t.
