FFS I really do hate Chelsea. It's a systematic disassembling of a competitor and it feels like it shouldn't be allowed.

But it has always happened. What is impressive about our current management is that they know it will happen and plan for it. Should be obvious really but most clubs don't plan for it and get hurt when it inevitably happens.

I agree. It's why I've written to Paul Barber today to ask that we send back all recently purchased players and staff back to their previous clubs, for free, with a letter of apology.

I completely take your point - but the current / recent situation with Chelsea - with the sheer volume of players bought, and staff head-hunted - really is quite unusual. Possibly even completely unprecedented in English football.

No matter how much contingency you build in to your succession planning, eventually, there is bound to be a detrimental effect on the efficiency of our scouting and recruitment strategies..... added to which, gradually, all our little unique secrets and processes are being spread out there amongst the more powerful money teams.... our little edge is likely to be diluted somewhat.

Sigh..... inevitable, frustrating and disappointing.
Can't be stopped of course.. I wish him no personal ill at all, however, I hope it all falls flat for Chelsea. I hope that the impact he can have is limited because the obsession that these clubs that they "deserve" better causes them to drop "the plan" because they get impatient. I hope that he is now licking his lips to fish in bigger ponds than we currently do. I hope pochetinno leaves and they blast through another set of managers with no clear direction and break all kinds of FFP rules to pacify their horrible fans.
"Big eats small" as someone once said in Peaky Blinders!! Lets hope in a matter of months he is tempted to join the Man Utd revolution and Chelsea have to wring their hands in disbelief that he is leaving.

I agree. It's odd.

But I genuinely don't care if all our people leave to one club or 10 different clubs. Football is just a big merry-go-round. Certainly no worries about it 'disassembling' us.

In corporate world there is normally a clause in senior level contracts that when you leave you cannot entice ex-colleagues to join you for x months/years. I would expect that we include that type of clause but Winstanley is probably past that date by now.
I notice garden leave until November, hopefully Chelsea are in an even worse state by then.
I've NEVER actively wanted Liverpool to win a cup final until now.

I accept the inevitability of this. But it does make you wonder if there's one of them, a single one of the staff below, say, Bloom and Barber (and maybe not even Barber) who would see the positives in staying where they are and trying to win something with Brighton? The culture of the club, the ownership model, all the stuff that Chelsea simply can't buy from us no matter how much money they throw at it - is that worth anything to any one of them?

Or are they so blinded by the allure of the 'big boys' that they've already forgotten what happened to Potter, to Cucurella et al?

(And no, I don't blame them or assign any bitterness toward them - nothing personal in this. They have their own careers and families to think about. It's a genuine thought.)

Torn on this one. A real shame it's Chelsea but he's done exceptionally well at the Albion over 8 years and turned down a big move up to Rangers (where he would have been Director of Football) in the summer. I'm sure the club have ramped up the succession planning since then.

My thought too.
When someone is a potential leaver then it certainly focuses you on succession planning, which we are already good at.
The fact that he’s been put on Gardening leave shows that we are protecting our preparation work for the summer window. Hopefully it’s for 6 months to take us through to the end of August.
