Although a REALLY small point, I remember once watching Bolton and on corner kicks wondering why, when defending, they had one guy basically standing between the corner of the box and the corner taker. It turns out, based on analysis, Sam was placing a player in the 5m radius where the majority of corner clearances land.

Most managers would be happy with the initial clearing of a corner. Sam was looking at how to use it to launch a counter attack.

Yes, this. He's a very astute manager, well ahead of the game. There's still some dickheads (mostly West Ham fans, who still hanker after some mythical football style they never had anyway) who equate using planning, sports science, sports psychology, (one of the first in the PL to use these), plans B & C - and come up with a one word derogatory answer, 'Hoofball'.

Being happy with an England manager because "he really wants it" is clutching at straws somewhat. Just about every England manager there has ever been (certainly the English ones) "really wanted it". Just because they didn't bang the desk with their fist at the opening press conference didn't mean they weren't immensely proud to take on the job. Being proud and enthusiastic on its own, however, doesn't get the job done.

I rather like Big Sam, his only problem with being England manager is that he can only pick English players. We're Doomed !

At least as England manager he can't be involved in back handers & dodgy transfer deals anymore (conveniently forgotten by the press now)

Ha ha ha - I agreed with you at the time this thread was posted that Allardyces previous history had been whitewashed from memory! Well that has come back to bite the FA hasn't it...

Yep. Dodgy Sam couldn't help but keep his fingers out of the pie. Little did we realise that the highest honour of managing the England team was just another cash cow for the crook

You couldn't make it up
