i very much doubt that he gives a toss about what happened in november!

he's been given a shit load of money, more than any club has spent at this level that i can remember, and is building a squad full of players that have done it before in this division and i daresay when they do get promoted should carry them into the upper reaches of the championship

For that outlay the owners will want a guarantee of promotion. Therefore if they are not in top 2 by end of October, then grumblings will be heard. If by December they are still not in top 2, then he will be gone. The pressure on Pardew is immemse, same goes for the team as well.

Can he/they handle it?

I think they wanted promotion off the back of a 10 point deduction, anything less than a flying start and Southampton may end up with a decent manager 12 games into the season.

oh yeah, i think he is

but even with pardew in charge, that squad should be good enough to win promotion, despite all this "one cock up and he is gone business". i can really see them being the newcastle of this league - a manager who nobody seemingly wants, ala chris houghton, but with a squad that will get results and keep him in a job

and if not, then they'll just fire him and bring in somebody far better and guarantee themselves promotion that way
