They just have a terrible diet, its been hjacked by big agri business

Take bread over there, its almost impossible to buy without sugar in it. Simple healthy food seems disproportionately expensive.

I don't we realise how lucky we are. In the UK you can buy cheap food and make a simple meal for very little money

A walk down the aisle of any US supermarket or Costco type outlet is enough to put on weight just looking at some of the crap. Some of the shite in their processed foods is horrendous, the colourings, sugars etc. Yet the UK government has pretty much given the green light to import US crap, no doubt without country of origin labeling. Fingers crossed if polls are correct and Trump is dumped, the UK will be at the back of the queue under a Biden administration, thus no deal.

But that doesn't fit his argument/narrative. Let's keep project fear going

No offence, but when I see the term 'narrative', I just think, ****
Project Fear? So, its going well? Tell me about how well things are turning out. There must be so many positives for you to choose from.

The US Agri business is very powerful and will fight hard. Look at sugar in most of the world it’s cane sugar. Not in the US, the Agri business fought hard to have import duty on cane so most US sugar is corn syrup, and guess who produces most corn. That’s why people pay extra for a Mexican Coke (as in Coca-Cola not white powder) as it is made with cane sugar. I think I read that corn syrup is the worst kind for diabetes.

Talk to Canadians about what has happened to obesity since tariffs were slashed on high-fructose corn syrup, its aided a public health disaster

And the purpose of the vote was to keep MPs busy?

that would be a good summary. no new standards or safeguards proposed, nothing to prevent standards being changed. only a narrow requirement for a trade negotiation to include standards.

How do you get fat from central heating? And which form of heating is therefore slimming?

less calories used to stay warm, so when consume same calories get larger. its another factor among many.

So, let's recap.

You all believe that chlorine washed chicken and hormone-treated beef should be banned in the UK.

Chlorine washed chicken and hormone-treated beef has been banned in the UK.

Chlorine washed chicken and hormone-treated beef continues to be banned in the UK.

Chlorine washed chicken and hormone-treated beef will continue to be banned in the UK.

12 pages of outrage.

Conclusion: You are all morons.

At post #120, you were on page 12 of a thread?

After just shy of ten years on NSC, you’ve still not found how to change the number of posts per page, and WE are the morons...?

I must say I do admire ardent supporters of Brexit, their comical Ali stance, right to the bitter end. The current cause for celebration is not getting food poisoning

We're talking about food safety, not food security.

I'd rather not eat chicken that has spent its short life walking through shit, if fact if we get it I won't be eating it.

You only have to look at Americans to understand their food, you are what you eat...

You might find it hard to tell the difference, as America is against the mandatory labelling of food to state its origin, and will try to have that included in any trade deal too.

Further confirmation of why government ministers tend to avoid James O'Brien, he just does not let them off the hook! Fair play to him, he's about the only one calling out these lying, corrupt charlatans.

O'Brien simply loves the sound of his own voice.

Awful presenter.

This is all a bit irrelevant anyway.

Chlorinated chicken is illegal in the UK.

The UK government has never shown any intention of changing that.

But they have shown a strong desire to do a US trade deal, and the US is not going to shift it's standards to suit us, so either the trade deal is doomed, or the standards are doomed.
If the only issue stopping a deal from being done is Animal welfare and food standards, do you expect the UK to cling on to them and dump the deal, or do the deal and ditch the standards?

It's like I said, in my opinion it was for the most part a "do not beat your wife" bill.

It passes, "look, he had to be forced not to beat his wife!", "Thanks to me, his wife is safe!"

It fails, "look, he wants to beat his wife!", "I tried to save his wife, I care about her, he obviously doesn't!"

Unfortunately, this is how politics works today.

If I asked you to commit to not beat your wife, I wouldn't expect you to respond with, "Yes, I promise." I would expect you, rightly, to respond with, "F*ck you."

I would have no problem agreeing to continue to not beat my wife, I dont know why you would find that hard to agree to?

They have no problem saying repeatedly that they will not beat their wives though, it is illegal to beat their wives now they say, they just dont want to promise that wont make it legal to beat their wives if a trade deal requires it.

O' Brien at 09.50 mins in was just badgering him and refusing to listen and trying to put words in in his mouth.... the worst kind of interviewer.
I am not a political person but the sensational nature of this thread made me do some checking, and I concur wth the comments of dingodan above.
