Was the survey only of NS STH’ers? On the actual principle, it should’ve been just that.

Struggling to understand the outrage here. Whilst there is some demand for safe standing there is no universal clamour for it. The club is now choosing to spend its resources on the outside fanzone instead.

Installing safe standing is expensive and does not increase capacity so the club has choices to make with regards to spending and has prioritised an area which will be benefit all attendees.

Also S/S remains on the agenda so it is not ruled out in the future. I suspect when safe standing becomes the norm in stadia we will follow suit. It is just not a priority now

Completely this. And frankly what is the point of taking the opinion of STHs who sit in the East or West Stands into account? Of course they aren't interested in safe standing and it's never going to impact them anyway! It's just the age-old manipulation of data to make it support whatever you want the outcome to be in the guise of consultation... We should be better than this.

I’m in WSL but would move to a safe standing area if one was available, but obviously no point in my opinion

It was sent to all stands. And from memory some of the questions were not always applicable and open to slight interpretation.

While i agree with you to a point, if you only survey the people that stand anyway then that would be manipulation of the data to suit only those who of course want to stand! I am not sure what they would get out of it.

The club almost certainly has little interest in safe standing because there is nothing in it for them other than a cost of a few million quid. I guess they are prepared to take the risk that nobody is cracking bones after tumbling down a few rows - they will know how many incidents there have been in the North in the last decade or so.

It is at least a bit reassuring that there are some vaguely insightful results to come from this survey rather than the last one which was a complete and utter farce, but it still feels very much a tick box exercise for them and something they can say they FAB has done.

Give it a few more years when we are the only stadium in the Prem without it and things might change, unless the North Standers want to campaign for it

700 people die a year climbing stairs in England, yet they make thousands of us climb 100+ of them up and down on a match day.

The bigger challenge is where do you put it, what do you do with those in that area that don’t want it etc.

North Standers:

1) Do you want safe standing?
2) If no, will you be prepared to stay in the north and use it? or move away?

Others:
1) will you move to a safe-standing area if it is available?

Stairs are designed to be climbed. Seating areas aren't designed to be stood in. But i agree with your other point. Given almost the entire the North stands, the logistics of finding an area to implement safe standing, then choosing how to manage moving people into/out of it, would be a complete nightmare

You can hardly blame the club for that, though - it's like giving them a contact phone number then leaving your phone turned off...

I don’t agree this should be funded directly by the fans. There must be a pot for stadium upkeep and enhancements etc…take out of that. Eg when all the lounges were upgraded our ticket prices did not got up specifically to pay for this. Same with the blue, now white, plans for the roof being redone. Obviously the cost is in there somewhere but then so are many things relating to the infrastructure.

That said, Installing safe standing can’t cost that much….spread over 30 odd thousand for a few seasons it shouldn’t be much of an uplift.

Our group got seats in the very back row, so was always gonna stand.

that only potentially happens when celebrating a goal. Its obviously not unsafe when just standing watching the game. If your argument is that it's unsafe when a goal is scored then surely every ground should be 100% safe standing

From the outset it felt like the club had already decided that this wasn't going to happen, and the survey was just a token gesture to the Fans Forum.

As more and more clubs have it installed (for safety!) it is going to happen eventually, but until then the club are happy to kick that can down the road as it's an overhead that's not going to generate any additional revenue.
