No to Death Penalty, he becomes a martyr, humiliate him totally by breaking him as a prisoner and a man infront of all the people that would use him as a fugure head.

The man is a coward, Hitler (and most of his officers) all topped themselves), as do most despots before they are caught. He was too scared to do even that. :shootself

Border country.East Preston.
I've loved the reports of him 'orchestrating the resistance' from his high-tech hidden bunker,'in constant satellite link-ups' to his wife in Jordan,Bin-Laden and the fighters on the streets in Baghdad, hidden somewhere under the desert, surrounded by top Republican guard and $$$$$$.

Just a rotten hole in the ground with a briefcase of used notes.

He's done well to last this long.

I think he only used the hole as a hiding place as he knew they were coming.

IMHO he should be put on trial by his people - if that is possible (the Arab world might still see that as trial by Yanks as they are still in occupation).

The worry I have is that Bush and Blair remain desparate to unearth WMD to justify the war and could see this as an opportunity. Rusmfeld could strike a deal with SH which preserves his life by ensuring an international trial (where non-death penalty countries such as the UK would veto death sentance) in exchange for Saddam spilling the beans.

Seagullsgonnagetya, I was thinking the same myself. Plea bargaining for the careers of Bush and Blair. Makesyasick.

One thing I do think is that the court must have an international element (more than just coalition) and that international element MUST include arab nations.

He'll be tryed in Iraq and executed in Iraq IMO, as long as the yanks haven't screwed up and nicked Santa Claus by misstake.

Tried in Iraq? Not a snowball's chance in hell he'll face trial in Iraq! Britain'll want an international court, the Americans will want to try him themselves. No way they'll send him back to Iraq.

UK and the US will want the new Iraqi government to be seen to be in charge. They'll hand Saddam over for a trial there. If the US tried and executed Saddam he'd become a martyr. If his own people try him and execute him that is less likely. If it goes to the International Court in the Hague the trial will take years with prison the worst he can expect. The problem with locking him up is that there is probably a whole load of extreme Saddam followers out there who will then start hijackings, bombings, etc in order to try and get their man freed. Let his own people execute him and the story ends

Trust the yanks to capture Saddam the same weekend that the scum got stuffed 3:0 at Stoke! The Sadam newsitem was therefore somewhat diluted. Talking of rumours (which we wern't), What can we read into the fact that I swear that I saw Pele Queueing for chips at Withdean during half time versus Port Vale?

I don't understand people who say execution is too good for him. Surely that's the worst thing you can do to a man? I'm not in favour of the death penalty because of the possibilities of a mistake, but I don't think you can claim that on this one.

The US want the Iraqis to try him because if his own people find him guilty and have him sentenced to death it will (1) avoid Saddam becoming a martyr at the Americans' expense, and (2) because then lots of happy Iraqis will be on the TV celebrating the end of the tyrant and Bush will be vindicated.

He will be able to say "look, we got rid of him, and here are his people cheering his demise, we were obviously right all along".

Strap him into the 'It's a small world ride' at Disney. 22 hours a day (24 would be inhumane).

Now that would be torture.

Driddles - you utter :censored:

I've now got that song stuck in my head!

It's a world of laughter, a world of tears,

It's a world of hopes and a world of fears;

There's so much that we share,

That it's time we're aware

It's a small world after all....

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

It all just shows what a feeble poodling American arse licking tosser B-liar is.

This country is against the death penalty, as in the UN. But we all know about brainbox Bush and his proven views on the death penalty, so you won't find Jack Straw and Bliar suggesting that the death penalty is the wrong thing to do.

No. Apparently that is for the Iraqi people to decide. How very fair and big of our wonderful government....a bit like it was for the Iraqi people to remove Hussain in the first place or for the international community (i.e. the UN) to decide whether or not to invade the country.

The war has been justified and those that say it hasn't need to take the heads out of their arses.
