very sad news a true Albion Legend

Never saw him play but used to talk to him a lot when i had a shop in kemptown
he was always in ladbrokes st georges road he loved he's horse racing.
He was a reall nice bloke im sad to here of his passing away.

Shouldn't there be some sort of football equivalent of the Wisden obituaries, which give the story of almost every player who died that year, regardless how famous they were - nationally or locally.

How many other former players will have gone completely unnoticed because nobody then remembered them in their pomp?

If this hasn't yet been mentioned the Rothmans (or Sky Sports as it is now) Year books do it.

a great guy, my thoughts are with his family, I have lots of memories of the laughs shared by him and Jock.

Some of used to go to the Goldstone and sit and have our lunch watching Frankie do his business on the pitch (which always looked immaculate) and he always had a few words with us.
sad news indeed.

The overriding memory of my 1st Albion match was that 1st glimps of the Goldstone pitch.

It was a December but the pitch seemed to glow, laid out lush and green and was always up amonst the best petches in the Country.

I never met frankie but he was famous as a prankster and you could always see that look of mischief in his eyes. So sad that it took somebody like Bellotti to sack him and end that relationship, but that was bellotti and don't ever forget it.

I hope Frankie gets the mins applause.

you must be very proud of him... I am going to my own grandfather's funeral tomorrow

As a boy in the 70s/80s I remember Frankie Howard as the groundsman and we always used to comment on how good the pitch looked (often when it was better than the football...!)

All the best Frankie. I remember him very well from my early days as a ball-boy at the GG. Lovely man. Can also remember being chased off the pitch by him a few times when we'd bunked over the fence after school, for a sneaky kick-about. Sorry for that Frankie!

Will need to be a minutes APPLAUSE on Saturday, because if we try silence, and the northern monkeys ruin it, I would be in a mood to take them all on!

Very sad. I never saw him play, but had read much about him. I know he was treated very badly by Belotti and that was criminal for a man that clearly lived and breathed The Albion.

RIP Frankie.

I agree with Hans and a minutes applause is an absolute must.

I would also like to see these former heroes given some sort of recognition at Falmer.
