Harley was in the 1901 yesterday, sitting next to Romain Vincelot. It just shows how far we have come that we have such talented players not involved in the squad. I feel sorry for Harley, he is very misunderstood by our fans, he is a good player but in a certain system. Like CMS we haven't seen his best yet, but hopefully we will.

I know I always bang on about it, but Burnley at home was his moment, he was fantastic for 10 minutes and would have really announced himself in that game. Sheer bad luck.

I tapped to talk.

I have seen flashes of creative brilliance, no doubt that for Brendan Rodgers and Gus to want him, he's got something about him, but I am guessing his ommision from the squad has nothing to do with a lack of creative ability, its because he can't or wont defend when we don't have the ball.

Defensively he offers little, whereas as Barnes, who may not be quite as gifted as Harley, offers a lot more imho, because he gets stuck in, tackles, wins free kicks and is good when the oppo have the ball.

Trust Gus will make the right call re Harley, but with JFC, Spaz, Dicker, Razak, Vicente etc its going to be hard for all of them to get in consistently

Is this your standard response to every one you disagree with, out of interest who would you take off of the bench for Harley

Purely an observation but you really are a total wind-up.

Time and again when a thread that's critical of the club or a player or a performance is running out of steam you are the one that jumps in to re-stoke the argument.

Sad really doesn't go far enough but to borrow the modern argot "bore off" does rather seem to hit the spot

edit: NBsml in post 17 also put it quite succinctly IMO :)

A point to bear in mind is that 5 playing members of our squad are on loan. They are only due to be here for a limited time and we can only likely currently afford them for that. If we were to get promoted the situation changes but if not a good number will return to their clubs and the likes of Vincelot, JFC and Harley will come more into the reckoning

It will be interesting to see who makes the cut when the next squad photograph is taken. Of the three you name JFC will be a certainty.

As for loans, yes they will return to their respective clubs, but that won't stop Gus getting them back if available/required. Hopefully his budget will be somewhat increased for the close season and we don't have to rely on the loan system as much.

I think the squad will get evolution in the summer, rather than revolution. Players like Harley will still be here I think (and hope), and if we're back to 7 subs he will be a lot more involved.

Unless we sign Razak permanently which would make us all rather pleased... What a player.

Are we expecting them to go back to 7 (obviously we're talking about the Championship)? Our current squad is massive and 5 is a real pain.

I think so, yes. Alot of managers have expressed their annoyance at only having 5 subs, so I should think it will be voted back in. If not, we'll just have to get promoted to the Premier League!
