I don't know exactly what they've done or their reasons, and I'm not justifying it without knowing enough, but personally I can't see how a few rogue soldiers is going to cause WW3.

Agreed.

I think we are probably getting an overly optimistic view of how the Ukrainians are doing against the Russians. I hope I’m wrong.

Maybe, don't think it is looking great for Ukraine from what I have seen, but they are making progress as slow and painful as possible for Russia.

I think it’s incredibly naive to think the bbc is impartial. Serious news events are given barely any airtime. You have mentioned the right to protest which a law is being passed to remove in this country and the BBC have barely gone near that story to the level it justifies being a prime example.

I agree with this.

There is no doubt the press give a highly selective view of what is going on. From my Bloomberg screens I'm getting a much better view of what is happening with this than the BBC are reporting. To the extent anyone has any idea at all outside of Putin's mind.

My cynicism definitely increased because of Covid, but, outside of the humanitarian aspect of the war where I think they are performing a valuable role, I take everything about this reported in the mainstream press with a large pinch of salt.

Perhaps - but it’s incredibly reckless and puts our country at huge risk if caught / found dead.

No it doesn’t. Don’t be so daft. It doesn’t even register as a threat in the enormous scale of things right now. A few mercenaries, that’s all, and good on ‘em. If I was young, no responsibilities and military experienced I’d probably go myself.

So why don't we lend Ukraine a hand and send a few hundred Army soldiers out there? Good point. If I was young, no responsibilities and military trained I would definitely be out there myself too!

Maternity and children’s wards badly hit at Mariupol hospital. Lord above, this is getting so utterly heartbreaking and upsetting.

I think one of the things that helped me cope with the depressing, early days of Covid was the fact that children were generally spared. I consider myself a resilient character but two weeks in, this is beginning to get to me in a significant way.

He’s not brave. It’s stupidity for a serving British soldier to go into a war zone Britain is not involved with. Perfect propaganda for Putin if caught that could bring us directly into the conflict. And actually I believe it’s 4 soldiers, not 1. Perhaps they all have Ukrainian family eh

This. All military sources including Sir Adm Radakin are urging British soldiers, serving or veteran, to stay away. For bloody obvious reasons.

I'm not saying I'm doubting the reports, but as soon as a war breaks it seems like one side always claims hospitals / schools / kindergartens have been attacked? Why would any army target them? It would surely be counter-productive? Cities are big places with lots of buildings, so it seems unlikely they'd get hit by chance.

Do more good to go to the border and offer to house refugees as the Polish are doing in huge numbers.

Of course that pre-supposes they could get visas to enter the UK :(

Ridiculous only allowing those with family into the UK and that’s only possible after jumping through God knows how many hoops.

Anyone with a Ukraine passport or ID should be let in.

Maybe they didn't get hit by chance.

I just struggle to see a military commander ordering soldiers to hit a children's hospital, and them doing it. What would be the advantage?
