Nope nothing like that. United Kingdom, Russia and Belarus are the only countries (according to Reporters without borders) in Europe to censor news and information and I think we're very unlikely to join in on that.

RT is interesting. I pretty much ignore anything they say about Russia but they often bring up dirt on the West that our media... avoid. Gives a good balance: if you want to understand the dirty nature of Russia, read Western media, and if you want to understand the dirty nature of the West, read Russian media. Also find their neutral articles on topics like environment and culture often very well-written but I'm guessing it will be less of that for a while now...

Overall media wise I find it hard to trust anyone right now. So much mixed and contradicting information. One moment it sounds like the Russian army is demoralised and suffering losses, the next it sounds like they are bulldozering the entire Ukraine in a rapid pace. Difficult to really get a grasp of how things are developing because everyone has good reasons to both lie and tell the truth.

What crap is this now? Go to bed.

The UK is certainly leading Europe, (except Belarus) in internet censorship.

However, it’s really only pedophiles and Islamic fundamentalists who are finding their access requirements neutered.

“Combating terrorism and preventing child abuse have been widely used as a justification by state agencies and private commercial actors (e.g., Internet service providers) for the implementation of interception and direct filtering measures. Nevertheless, in 2010 the OpenNet Initiative found no evidence of technical filtering in the political, social, conflict/security, or Internet tools areas. However, the UK openly blocks child pornography web sites, for which ONI does not test.”

But you said "United Kingdom, Russia and Belarus are the only countries (according to Reporters without borders) in Europe to censor news and information" but you linked to a Wikipedia page which lists the Reporters Without Borders "enemies of the internet".

Without discussing the wrongs and rights (because it's irrelevant) it only takes a cursory bit of research to find out the United Kingdom was placed on that list for surveillance of usage and blocking illegal content and file sharing.

It has nothing to do with censorship of news and information.

Are you 14 ?

What's Swanny done wrong apart from offer a different view ?

Because we are living in an age of false information, where nonsense is described as opinion and therefore possible fact.

To suggest that the UK (with all its faults) is the worst in Europe for censoring news and information is complete hat stand weapons grade wibble.

He's perfectly allowed to hold that "opinion" (it isn't one) but others are perfectly allowed to read it and shoot it down.

Because somewhat surprisingly to Mr Pizza Box, we live in the UK.

"news" is censored , skewed and augmented all over the globe , put that together with the brain scrambling , fictitious, shyte coming out of the movie and tv business and it really is no wonder there are so many fruit loops about.

"Nonetheless, over the last few years the country has witnessed a quick shift toward increased surveillance and police measures in both online and physical space. Combating terrorism and preventing child abuse have been widely used by state agencies and private commercial actors (e.g., Internet service providers) to justify the implementation of interception of communications and direct filtering measures in the country, which have drawn growing criticism. "

In China, information on the Uyghur situation is censored because it is religious extremism. What is extremism according to Boris or the next Boris? Does bbc.co.uk still work for you? And then you have Cleanfeed - there is no way of knowing what gets blocked (censored) or not.

It is a bit OT however and we should leave it at that or take it in some other thread.

Maybe cut down on the weed ?

You are on the classic conspiracy theory paradoxical loop of convincing yourself information is being withheld from you and the only reason you found that out was from reading information that wasn't.

I read this as "I'm out of arguments so I'll have to resort to the very creative, witty and not all tired pizza box/weed stuff as it in my head, where no orginal thought has ever seen the light, it is an extremely clever way to insinuate some kind of intellectual superiority."

... as I said.

He had a view the other day about NATO being a ‘colonial force.’ I asked him to list the NATO colonies and didn’t get a reply. He is doing exactly the same as he does with Covid ie spewing out phrases in scattergun fashion, anything that allows him to claim superior knowledge to everybody else. He regurgitates conspiracy theory he has read on the internet. He should be banned from the thread because he is ruining it and I will now go elsewhere for updates. The most disappointing thing is when he garners support from people such as yourself.

I have read somewhere that an international brigade similar to the one that was formed during the Spanish civil war is/could be formed. Always thought this might happen.

That’s what NATO could be described as, or maybe even the UN. Neither want to provoke a nuclear Holocaust, yet.

Agree completely. I've been coming to this thread as one of my go to sources for info as to the situation on the ground only to have to wade through swannys drivel to find any
