Well, I'd call that a very sweeping generalisation. Nations are made up of individuals. Even in its darkest days of state run fascism, you couldn't say that Germany was populated by only evil people. While a (sizeable) number of thugs have been behaving in an appalling way, seemingly without the disapproval of the state, the greater part of the Russian fans were behaving appropriately. In our darkest days of football related thuggery in England, other nations were very quick to tar us all with the same brush, let's not do ordinary Russians the same disservice. I know plenty of good Russians. Yes, they have a bit of a way about them that can rub you up the wrong way...

Luckily some Russian ****wit posted a 6 minute video of himself and a very large group of meatheads running around the streets of Marseille with weapons attacking innocent people eating and drinking in quiet back street bars and restaurants, smashing bottles, chairs and metal bars over their heads and stamping on them leaving a trail of unconscious victims behind....which kind of takes a bit of pressure off England's fans misbehaviour

I hate to say it but we are stronger together and the threat of Putin is real and it's his thugs in Syria who are forcing the boat pepole out of Syria. Which half of Africa are trying to follow. Thank goodness the French are trying stop them crossing the channel which they would stop if we vote out. Think about it.

That would be NATO.... they have served Europe well in that respect......

I'm surprised by the suspended disqualification as it shows Uefa actually having some balls; I had expected a fine and a bit of empty bluster.
They've put themselves in the position whereby if Russian twats cause more trouble in a stadium they are pretty much duty-bound to impose the disqualification.

Where have you read that? I've noticed that during the Euro 2012 troubles they caused (at every match I believe) they were given a suspended sentence that applied to Euro 2016 qualifying (-6 points). I can only assume they behaved during that and as the slate has been wiped clean they are back at it.

I hope there aren't more scenes this week in Lille, feel very sorry for the genuine fans and members of the public out for a tournament, or just a meal! Did you guys see the photos of people at the game with their children / toddlers?! You'd have to be insane to take your kids to a game with Russia.

If you watch RT news then it is obvious that Moscow is pro Brexit .

Oh god, now I have to reconsider my vote.

Would be pretty dimly short-sighted if that were the case, seeing as how they're supposed to be hosting the World Cup in two years time and would presumably want to 'welcome' as many visitors from around the globe, if only to rip them off and/or beat them up. The worse it gets at the Euros, the more people will opt to stay safe and stay home in 2018.

You'd have to be an idiot to go and support your team in Russia, IMO.

Everything ive read says that although its suspended it will be applied immediately if there is further trouble. Thats probably how its supposed to prevent further problems

UEFA have played a blinder. They appear to act tough, but thinking about it a bit more Russia was fined for the behaviour of fans inside the stadium. Therefore, provided they don't do the same against Slovakia and Wales, they will get off scott free (€150,000 fine is chicken feed).

It then turns out that UEFA's interim head, Angel Llona, who would have been involved in determining the punishment (which shouldn't be too harsh as it may call into question Russia's right to host WC2018) is also the FIFA head of the Russia WC 2018 tournament. Surely this is a conflict of interest?

As for the ethics of it all, Llona was fined €25,000 recently by FIFA for refusing to co-operate the with the (as yet unpublished) Garcia report into corruption at FIFA. Indeed, one of the few words that he was recorded to say was "gilipollas", which is Spanish for mother****er.

This is the man in charge of European football and the next World Cup. Don't expect anything to happen to Russia apart from some bluster and empty threat. It's the UEFA way.
