It's Russia, but has Putin lost control? Emily Maitlis will be asking more questions of Russian dissident oligarch Mikhael Khordorkovsky shortly on Newsnight, BBC2, 2230.

Hope some of the Putin apologists can force themselves to watch this ,,,

I really don't think there are ANY Putin " apologists " here, As Mikhail says, it could be the FSB on Putin's orders or a rogue element within the FSB. As usual on NSC a number of people have worked themselves up in to a lather over the semantics of an issue and split in to their factions. We live in a democracy and are allowed to ask the questions that matter, something Mr Putin would not allow for long.

JC has asked the question about the certainty of how, who and why which is his duty, as leader of the official opposition, it's his job to hold the government to account for their actions.....another thing that is sadly lacking in Russia. Thank goodness the Labour Party never trousered that £800k of Russian money the howling anguish from the usual suspects would be deafening, but, as it's the Tories the silence is deafening.

Who knows whats gone on with this. Maybe the Russians have started some round of getting rid of undesirables, but would have thought that somebody that was targeted by the Russian secret services for assassination would be, well, dead.

it could be, but its not a very credible scenario, and would signify a situation in Russia outside Putins control, and you might expect them to respond differently (vociferously deny, blame Ukrainians and invade or something). their response amounts to a "who moi" faux denial.

the 800k is bad form for Tories, imo parties shouldn't accept any money from abroad, though if they live here, ees complicated. if we had a hard limit say £1k fro any donations, might solve this sort of nonsense. beware of throwing stones on this, because historically some Labour funding (allegedly) came from Russia, and may still do indirectly through old alliances.

Dont know, critically ill, but would have thought if they would be assassinating somebody, they would not be hanging around long. How long was Litvanenko incapacted before he went? I dont remember
Regardless of who has done it, they chose to infect him knowing what would happen. They chose not to have them killed immediately. I see no reason why the secret services would want the target dead immediately any more than any other enemy the victims may have.

Not sure of any good reason to keep them hanging around. Who knows. Maybe the victim is involved in something nefarious other than State issues. Got no idea really, all seems a bit weird.

Arsenal got the plum draw v Moscow

There are two ways that's going to go, they either get shown the most remarkable hospitality and kindness or there will be lots of little niggles with paperwork or medical kit, lost luggage, roadworks on the way to the hotel or the game.... etc etc.

But what will it be like when Arsenal go to Moscow though ?

Wouldn't make any difference if they did. Corbyn, Seamus Milne and other far left apologists will always find reasons not to unequivocally condemn Russia, same with Venezuala, Cuba, IRA, Hezbollah, Hammas, any one opposed to western interests. Whereas we know he/they are front and centre in condemantion if the US, Israel, western foreign policy , any Tories are under the spotlight.

There are many apologists for these people on NSC who try to deflect attention onto funding issues or suggest Corbyn is only asking legitimate questions conveniently ignoring his longstanding 'principled' engage with anyone that hates us - anti west/NATO stances.

Boris Johnson seems to have drawn the short straw today and has the job of accusing Putin of being behind it. Although we all know it probably is it's a brave move to actually say it, particularly when you are a bit accident prone like Boris !

Ex-British Ambassador, Craig Murray.

'I have now received confirmation from a well placed FCO source that Porton Down scientists are NOT able to identify the nerve gas as being "of Russian manufacture", and have been resentful of the pressure being placed on them to do so.

Porton Down would only sign up to the formulation “of a TYPE developed by Russia” after a rather difficult meeting where this was agreed as a compromise formulation'

https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2018/03/of-a-type-developed-by-liars/

So the point remains. It is likely that Russia, in some way, has something to do with this.

But it is wrong to issue complete judgement before evidence is shown.

As regards Corbyn, I would be more concerned with the Tory party's Russian friends.
