Nestling in green nowhere
After having spent some time mixing with and talking to politicians and watching a good friend of mine rise up the ranks to become a very senior figure in one of the 4 major political parties, I have realised the following:

1) that a large portion of MP's and MEP's are career politicians and are more interested in moving up the ranks within their party and/ or protecting their positions than they are in genuinely making a difference. Those outspoken members of a party are either forced to get back in line or pushed out to the fringes.

2) that due to the first past the post voting system in this country the political parties are geared towards championing policies which resonate with a minority of voters in swing constituencies. This is more about strategy than understanding or caring about what the majority of people actually want.

3) that the influence of media corporations also restricts the policies that the main political parties are able to table often leading to the protection of the status quo.

All of the above leads to apathy with politics within the general public, low voter turnout and the correct assumption that there are only very small differences between any of the main political parties i.e that it really doesnt matter who gets in.

Is the correct assessment. So. Team brand it is.

Don't encourage them. I mentioned that during the local elections I voted for "Dogshit man" whose sole platform was the incidence of Dogshit and it's unpleasantness. He was the only candidate who bothered to knock on my door, generated his own flyers (which were better put together than the Lib Dems btw) and offered a solemn vow to personally address the Dogshit problem locally.

I doubt he'll ever win anything but he has more credibility in my book than the others put together.

Brand is a deluded fool with his choice of mentors. He seems to get a lot of his information regarding ISIS/Islam from a certain Mo Ansar, who claims to be a Muslim moderate and a voice for British Muslims. He's far from it, in fact he's extremely dangerous and a notorious liar. This Telegraph column effectively pulls apart any credibility that Ansar has/had or ever will.

Sadly, it's not just Ansar that Brand holds up in awe. He describes the writer Owen Jones as this generation's Orwell. Sadly, Owen Jones is also getting a rough old time of late with some of his anti-capitalist musings. Blatant lies, consistent inaccuracies that he acknowledges but refuses to redact from either his speeches or his books.... Just google his name and the word 'errors' to get a flavour of the scandal.

This is one of the best critiques of Brand's pseudo-intellectual moralising that I've read anywhere. Please ignore the fact that it's the Catholic Herald website, the message is still incredibly relevant:

Brand talks a good game but as others have said, in essence it's sixth form politics. Saying that, I don't think taking political advice from Lydon is a serious option. The man is a good old-fashioned chancer who masquerades his love of money and influence as some sort of ironic gesture. A plague on both their houses.

And bang up-to-date, if you want to, you can catch Russell Brand tomorrow in Hoxton (of course!) with his self-styled 'Anarchic Fayre' (I bet he chose that title). Interesting (especially to the person who neg repped me and described my previous post as mindless right-wing nonsense) that his guest list includes Laurence Easeman who apparently has close links to far-right organisations.

What's that phrase about judging someone by the company they keep?

More nonsense from Brand I saw on Twitter:

"How do you suggest people get involved in the revolution ?"
By disobeying anything you agree with. Whether that's paying your mortgage or paying your tax or going to work. Just disobey, but in a jolly and loving way. Its not needless recalcitrance I'm supporting".

So there you have it. Make yourself homeless and destitute, but in a jolly and loving way.
(its not known whether he said this from his home in London or LA).

Round the back, by the bins.
So Brand wants the youth of the day to stop voting. If this happened then the political parties would ignore them and concentrate on the older voters. More for pensions, less for young jobseekers. How is this a good idea? Lydon for me, with bells on.

Brighton / Hove actually
Evil eyed Brand is a self serving, self promoting attention seeker who uses a dressed up, fanciful interpretation of the English language with no substance. It’s all about him manipulating people for his own personal rating gain and ego.

Every interview he will play the poor me, but I'm fine now ex drug addict glorification card, when the real message of addiction comes from people who have died from it.

Give me a straight talker any day not gobbledygook.
