I’d be unhappy if I had absolutely no idea what my new manager offers the club too.
Not many NSCers towing the club line have really offered any examples of Fabs positives beyond the league position and occasional decent 45 minutes. No mention of obvious leadership skills, no mention of tactical nous. No mention of an obvious desire, an obvious intelligence. He’s literally just a bloke. A kind of half American in a theme park, half angry bloke. In fact I can imagine him as a tour guide.
That’s not manager material. He must have interviewed very bloody well.
I’d say the growing evidence points to players not being hugely impressed by him.
Probably because nobody on NSC knows more than about 5% of what he actually does. At best. So it’s all just speculation.

Forest’s whole game is built round Chris Wood. It’s to Nuno’s credit that instead of seeing a traditional 9 as a problem to be loaned out, he’s used good full backs and two great attacking players in Elanga and Gibbs-White to feed him.

Throwing on Webster for five minutes in a role Ferguson should be in is hardly the same thing.
Blimey the Webster thing again.

But Brighton play with 2 wingers nearly always and Welbeck isnt far off a big traditional number 9 - and Supported often by good full attacking backs like Estupinan etc. (missed him on Saturday). Is this the stick to beat him with ?

I’m sure Nuno is getting a lot right and Hurzeler a lot wrong - certainly in the last 2 games but it’s not like he’s going round with a false 9 or wing backs or some experimental set up etc normally anyway (we will try and forget the first half on Saturday)

This, the fact some worry we aren’t towing the club line on here is nauseating.
Actually the reverse - you can get a lot of grief on here, which is fine, for suggesting all sorts of contrarian “club line” type thoughts.

Ferguson should be loaned out - why not, what a decent transfer window, give Hurzeler time, I love going to matches on Saturday nights, the trains are fine and Adam Webster is a decent striker who deserved his chance - for example.

Well yeah - in reply to a post about Webster going up front!

Danny Welbeck and Chris Wood are as comparable as a Mars Bar and an Orange but that wasn't my point either. The point was, if you're going to chuck on a big lad to score a goal at the death then it's probably better to try Ferguson than Webster - not that we can now :(

(yes I know he wasn't on the bench but he'd made a miracle recovery by Saturday)

Agreed about the choices now offered to Hurzeler on the bench in terms of strikers and not having Evan there and what he offers is a lot closer to your Chris Wood .

Think Welbeck and Wood are more similar than you let on.

And Hurzeler and RDZ in fact were similar to Nuno in the sense that they were all about feeding the strikers through attacking full backs, wingers and having a #9. But injuries haven't helped this or last season with that.

Let me tell you something. I have absolutely no inside knowledge of this but in my opinion this is all the managers fault, the medical teams, & the recruitment team, & the guys that signed the cheques. #BarberOUT

In reality it's a bit much to expect a single person, whatever their age, background and experience to be simultaneously:

i) Master tactician
ii) Hypeman
iii) Disciplinarian
iv) Nurturing carer
v) Medical expert
vi) Public speaker
vii) etc.
viii) etc.

Just like the wheel of attributes we see for players, all managers will be more- or less-skilled in each of these areas, and sensible clubs (hopefully including Albion) gather a team around the manager to bolster any weaknesses.
Yes, that's true. Bringing in complimentary figures around the manager to add skill sets that aren't there will always be beneficial.

But the question remains with some as to whether we're even at i) yet. That's an essential pre-requisite managerial skill that needs constant evidencing.

If any manager doesn't have core tactical ability in the levels required at the standard required, that individual generally shouldn't be in that role.

The exception to that is if an organisation is prepared to allow that manager learn on the job and make mistakes, even significant ones.

Maximising current potential is sacrificed in the belief that long term improvement and development will outweigh immediate opportunities.

But as ever, there's no guarantees of long-term development. And short-term shortcomings affect long-term desired outcomes.

As with any investor, monitoring current trajectory is important to predict likely ROI.

For better or worse, it's always been a results business.

The biggest concern for me is not the tactical mistakes which i hope he learns from.(IE Chelsea away high line and then the Newcastle game ) but the amount of cards he picks up for dissent. . As an example of showing discipline to the team he falls down badly .

I've said before he reminds me of an AI robot. And looks a bit like ken of Barbie fame.

I'm not sure about average bloke. He strikes me as a spoilt rich kid. Everything handed to him on a plate , easy arrogant life (very different to RDZ). Probably enjoys skiing in Gstaad or St Moritz ... Could have been a bland investment banker if he didn't continue with football.

Corporate bods like barber love these types as they are emotionless and you will never know what they're truly thinking.

I do sometimes wonder what does he say that is so different to what all the other manager say when they are shouting at the ref/4th official from the side-lines in pretty much every game.

For all the hoo-haa about losing to Forest, and of course that was a dreadful result, it's only our 6th loss of the season. We've won-or-drawn 75% of PL matches under Hurzeler. Yes, too many of those have been draws, but a single goal in only three out of those ten would have us up to 5th* and we'd be all smiling and rosy.

Three goals. From over 2,000 minutes of football played so far this season. Three. That's what would make the difference.

Football is** a game of very slim margins and to write the manager off after a couple of unfavourable results, especially given the size and stature of our club within the PL, is nonsense.

* ignoring the effects on the other clubs - who can be bothered to calculate that too...?

I think his biggest mistake with this is just saying "f*ck" whenever he speaks to officials. He needs to change it to "blast" or something...

Can we just agree on something in this thread:

It's toeing the line; not towing the line.

Inversely, if you're referring to someone that's a bit of a git, they would be a tow rag.

Both have military derivations.

Carry on.
Fair enough. However, the next pedant who wants to pick up someone on the spelling of our ex Celtic midfielder will get a kicking!
