Maybe you're right, althought I'm sure I read that after it had all gone to shit there.
Uncle Buck said:I thought we were giving Crawley a wide berth due to the situation up there.
Les Biehn said:I would say it is worth banking on potential, surely that is the whole point of a youth policy.
Surely we will also get more for of the two if they are playing first team footbal in say a years time. If that keeper is sold we still have a decent one to replace him.
Kinky Gerbils said:Without having much to do with it.
Anyway thats not the point, a season at Crawley would have been better than Dorchester.
Uncle Buck said:Also keepers do not tend to break through until later than outfield players. Carson is one of the younger keepers playing at the top level. So can you have 2 of the same age on the wage bill, yet neither seemingly ready to make the step up?
Les Biehn said:But if they aren't earning much and a loan club is paying part of their wages then surely its not a massive problem given what the club may make in selling them. Also one of them has to get their chance sometime soon, they have both been on the bench a few times.
I understand what you're saying though. It gonna be a tough one for DW.
Uncle Buck said:I do question if you need 2 of them, even though they are not earning much.
Also you look at Flinders and he is only a year older, from what has been seen of Martin and Sullivan, are they in that class?
Les Biehn said:Who knows unless they get the chance. As you say he's only a year older so some keepers can be ready earlier.
Dave the Gaffer said:Do you think his favourite soup is OX TAIL?
Uncle Buck said:But he is not ready is he, that is why Palace are farming him out.
Kinky Gerbils said:I sort of see the plus points of releaseing him and the plus points of keeping him.
Not easy.
Personally I would release him.
Les Biehn said:Hang on a minute, one minute keepers come through later, then Flinders proves that not all of them do and then Flinders isn't ready. A bit of LI type spin there UB.
Yes keepers tend to come through later, however as Flinders proves not all do, but it may be that he is only ready for league 1 not Championship yet. Each case has to be taken on its merits, the problem is neither of us work day in day out with the two young keepers so we don't know what stage they are at. However i would say that a keeper that Liverpool and Everton have shown interest in and another who has represented England are both worth keeeping hold of.
However I can see why you don't think so, given the information we have it really just comes down to personal opinion of how the club should play it.
Uncle Buck said:So spin on it at all. Our young keepers have been deemed not ready, so one has been playing for a while in the Conference South and one in the stiffs.
Palace did play Flinders this season, but have also loaned him to Gillingham and us. But league clubs want Flinders, but no League 2 teams have shown an interest in our young keepers.
Les Biehn said:No they haven't. But a prem team has shown an interest in one of them and the other has represented England. Just because other teams haven't shown an interest doens't mean they won't make it or one of them won't be ready in a years time.
Uncle Buck said:We shall see.
Everton did take a look at Martin, but they also sent him back to us.
