Wish it was in the EU
Varndean used to piss on Stringer in the 70s, and not just on the Varndean football pitches (Stringer didn't have any football pitches). It was Brazil vs. Ebbsfleet United. While Stringer's future Kwikfit fitters were in woodwork and metalwork remedial classes and then rushing home for their tea at 5 o'clock, the future leaders of industry at Varndean were posher, studying hard for their exams, before having a late supper at 8 o'clock.
That pretty much sums up the 1944 Butler Education Act

Seaford Head versus Newlands on Denton Corner in the 80s. State v private school. Prearranged. Many expulsions the next day for that one, like a North Korean show trial the following morning in assembly as the names were read out, the guilty were made to stand, followed by the headmaster's "Expelled" each time.
Newlands? I never knew that Seaford Head had to get through qualifying rounds before facing Tideway.

Fawcett v Stringer almost happened one lunchtime when I was at Fawcett.
Big rumour that Stringer were coming over and many lads were ready for them, we had just gone back to lessons after lunch and Stringer turned up late

The classroom I was in was at the Hollingbury side of the school so I had a perfect view, Stringer lads came through a garden of a house in Petworth Rd and straight into the open land outside the school.
Next minute the police turned up and rounded the Stringer boys up and made them sit on the wet grass.

These days they are all friends. Football teams, primary school links etc & social media / online gaming keep them firmly connected & no twatish inter school rivalry that I can see

Used to hear things about supposed fights between Holy Trinity and/or Ifield/Hazelwick in late 70’s /early 80’s but never actually saw any myself 🤷‍♂️

Always rumours it was going to go off between Stringer and Varndean after school in the late 80s. Never did and one of the funniest rumours looking back was that they’d hidden a video camera behind the grill of the school minibus to film anyone taking part. In the late 80s they’d have had to strap the thing to the bonnet.

One lunchtime at Fawcett I was on the playing field at the Patcham side of the school and spotted about 10 lads heading towards the school. As they got near the school I realised the lad at the front went to Falmer, he was a nasty piece of work and a bully, he lived not far from me at the time and was 2 years above me at my junior school.
I did think are 10 Falmer really going to have a go at Fawcett, they just strolled in unchallenged and the bully kicked the crap out of just one lad and nobody else was touched and they were off again.
The Fawcett lad that got the hiding was also a bit of a bully and not really liked, he got done for murder a few years after we left school.

When I l
I went to Blatch from 98-03 and it only happened once in that time. It really was ultimately one lad from each school with a load more reluctantly getting involved. I was a mere bystander but it was quite a thrill hearing the Hove Park lads approach the west wing field sounding like a load of Galatasaray ultras

there was one UNBELIEVABLE fight between two lads in our year though. Genuinely wanted to do a number on each other and they ended up one on one in the unoccupied tennis courts like they were in a wwe HELL IN A CELL. The rumours were that the teachers let them crack on with it as they were actually intrigued as to which of them would win. They only intervened when one of them did a near perfect DDT on the bare concrete
When I left you started

What was it?
Newman were seen climbing over the dividing wall between the two schools.
There followed a heavy exchange of bricks, stones and other assorted objet d’art.
This went on for some considerable time. Four teachers piled into a 2CV and rounded
up most of the Grammar lads.
At kicking out time a mob of Newman marched down complete with police motorcycle escort.
Not aware of anything else kicking off. At the following morning’s assembly those involved were
compared with ‘the worst kind of football hooligans’, which got a muffled cheer.

Despite there only being a chain wire fence between them, the 70's 'rumbles' between HGSB and the Neville consisted of a fair bit of traditional two step forward, two step back, 'you want some ?' dancing, together with VERY occasional flurries of a couple of punches being thrown, followed by hasty retreats.

Very much like the Goldstone just down the road at the same time (but don't tell, there's a few reputations need defending)

When I was at Forest in Horsham back in the early noughties we kicked Tanbridge House’s arse in a chess tournament.

That showed them.
