Question. If a penalty taker has a penalty saved or it comes back of the woodwork and he nets the rebound himself why isn't it offside?

Really? (as in hes not allowed to score from a rebound from the woodwork?)

Have I misread that?

Nope. This has been a rule since the dinosaurs were in the top division. Another player must touch the ball before the set-piece taker can touch it again. The same rule applies for all set-pieces.

So if per se you hit the bar and it bounced back to you and you volleyed it in that would be disallowed?

Yes.

If the penalty taker whacked a penalty against the ref, it then smashes against the crossbar, comes back to the penalty taker at an awkward height, he overhead kicks the ball back against the post, it rebounds back at force but amazingly he manages to readjust himself into a somersault position, spin in the air and deliver a scorpion kick putting the ball straight into the top corner of the goal, breaking an arm and fracturing an ankle in the process. That would still be disallowed.

Thats a shame cos it would be goal of the decade, I should have stated from a free kick though- same rules?

Players must actively and swiftly retreat from the ball when a free kick is given... bookings issued for anyone failing to do so, injured or not.

11 players wearing shirt numbers 1 to 11, appropriate to their position.

Only 1 substitute allowed. So much fun has gone seeing players tiring at the end of games, players playing out of position and outfield players in goal.

Outfield players should not be allowed to wear gloves, snoods, full length undershorts etc... bookings will be issued at the start of the game and again at the start of the second half.

Deliberate and cynical fouls ('taking one for the team') should be instant red card.

All yellow cards should result in 10 minutes off the pitch for the offender.

Taking the ball into the corner and then shielding the opposition from getting the ball by any means and limbs possible. It's obstruction and time wasting! Free kick the other way!
A

Shielding the ball in the corner is a result of the passing back to the keeper law. I prefer how it is now. Watch some 1980s time wasting if you don't remember it.

Some good ideas and some odd ones but here's my take.

Separate time keepers. Keep the match at 45 minutes each way (we're not american football) and final whistle when ball kicked out of play. Players should be able to cope with a 90 minute match, after all, when necessary they play an extra half hour in some cup games.

5 game ban for simulation whether advantage gained or not. Cannot fathom why the FA differentiate between someone that cheats and gets caught by the ref and those that don't.

Keep the offside law but remove this rubbish about 1st and 2nd phase. Don't think many refs fully understand that.

Revert back to Linesman and get them to signal immediately the ball goes out of play rather than wait authority from the ref.

Mike up refs. They need to explain themselves more.

In tribute to another thread, refs to allow about 10 seconds before deciding whether worthwhile advantage has been gained, not just seeing if the next pass reaches someone.

Any other ideas?

It isn't obstruction as it is allowed within the laws, ie if the ball is within playing distance you can shield it. It's also not classified as time wasting, ie the ref can't add time because of it, as the ball is in play. Time wasting is when the ball is out of play and a team take too long to bring it back into play, ie goal kicks, throw ins etc.

They could of course change the rules (that would seem to suit BG) with regard to shielding the ball but don't see it as a major problem. Up to the opposition to get players in there to win the ball.

:lolol:
Any player starting the match wearing a short sleeved shirt, with no Under Armour type top but wearing gloves, should be sent back to the changing rooms for a good ten minutes to think about his actions.
