Current Swedish international Rami Shaaban? :dunce:

I think we Brighton fans have a real problem identifying when we have a very talented player (with the exception of Zamora) - we always seem to criticise them!! If it were just the fans, it wouldn't be such a big problem, but as it's the manager and the board :nono:

Examples;

Colin Kazim-Richards (Sold for £150k.. when you consider £100k minimum was spent on Turienzo..)
Richard Martin (released on a free to.. Premier League Man City)
Joel Lynch (not good enough to put out on loan to.... Championship side Notts Forest)
Gareth Barry
Roy Keane
Ian Wright

The same thing was happening with Murray. He was getting SO much abuse and vitriol

Your examples aren't very good, are they?

CKR debate has been done to DEATH. He did have talent, but wasn't prepared to use it here. And he wasn't sold for £150k, it was nearer £350k with the sell ons.
Richard Martin was released to nowhere, actually, then later picked up on the say so of City keeping coach [and former Albion] Eric Steele. He's yet to play a game, of course.
Lynch, just about every fan agrees that he IS talented. We know nothing beyond that, really.
Barry, was poached by Villa from our youth set up. there is no suggestion whatsoever that the club didn't 'rate him'.
Keane, never actually had a trial here, so difficult for anyone to not 'rate him'.
Wright, is one we unfortunately missed out on, but its pretty hard to judge from just a training session. Every club would have its share of stories like that. Ours include John Aldridge and Trevor Steven.

CKR is now playing in the Champions League and capped with the Turkish national side. He was used as a sub, and in his season in the Championship scored spectacular goals, and clearly showed his ability in a very poor side.

Brighton fans were SLAGGING off Murray for being 'lazy' and whatnot only a few weeks ago, in exactly the same manner as CKR was receiving abuse whilst with us.

Lynch has been SLAGGED off by many fans for being a turncoat, and requesting a transfer, because he wants to play regular football, and felt he should be playing ahead of the likes of Colin Hawkins. He then goes straight into the team at a club with a much higher reputation, playing in a higher division.

Richard Martin was taken on trial by EVERTON, before we decided he had no future at the club, and we released him. He was then unattached before Man City signed him, where he is currently now third choice goalkeeper, and actually played in some pre-season friendlies both this season and last season.

Gareth Barry *was* poached by Aston Villa as a youngster, but the out-of-court settlement we reached some years later was a PITTANCE compared to what he's worth - according to O'Neill around the £20m mark. We got how much? Less than £500k in total?

Roy Keane was had a chance to sign as a kid, but wouldn't even offer him a trial. Unlike Shane McFaul, the *other* world class Irish central midfielder, who was offered a season to shine and featured for approximately 6 minutes in total.

Ian Wright we had a good look at, and decided he didn't have the ability to play for us. Enough said.

i don't QUITE get your point about barry

the club was a mess at the time, and a premiership team came knocking (although urban MYTH has it that standing was actually their first choice) - what exactly were we supposed to do?

In Barry's case we had to take what we could get. My point is I don't think the fans, and more worryingly the club, are particularly adept at identifying when we have a very talented player. If anything, often these players get more abuse when things go wrong.

Anyway, the point was several different people named Rami Shaaban as one of our rubbish goalkeepers. He isn't. :)

Okay, deep breath...

CKR is now playing in the Champions League and capped with the Turkish national side. He was used as a sub, and in his season in the Championship scored spectacular goals, and clearly showed his ability in a very poor side.

.

He had NO interest in playing football for Brighton. If you failed to see that then you're clueless. We got £375k from memory, in total which was a more than fair price for the ability he had shown TO THAT POINT.

Brighton fans were SLAGGING off Murray for being 'lazy' and whatnot only a few weeks ago, in exactly the same manner as CKR was receiving abuse whilst with us.

.

Those people are idiots. Murray's percieved 'laziness' and CKR's surly unwillingness to even try, are poles apart.

Lynch has been SLAGGED off by many fans for being a turncoat, and requesting a transfer, because he wants to play regular football, and felt he should be playing ahead of the likes of Colin Hawkins. He then goes straight into the team at a club with a much higher reputation, playing in a higher division.

.

Slagging off for being a 'turncoat' is not remotely the same thing as failing to recognise talent, though. And no he hasn't gone 'straight into a team' has he? He's barely featured.

Richard Martin was taken on trial by EVERTON, before we decided he had no future at the club, and we released him. He was then unattached before Man City signed him, where he is currently now third choice goalkeeper, and actually played in some pre-season friendlies both this season and last season.

.

Jury has to be out on Martin. Good luck to him, I hope he does well. As yet he's played NO games, so hasn't really proved anything to anyone.

Gareth Barry *was* poached by Aston Villa as a youngster, but the out-of-court settlement we reached some years later was a PITTANCE compared to what he's worth - according to O'Neill around the £20m mark. We got how much? Less than £500k in total?

.

How is what he is worth NOW, over TEN YEARS later, even remotely relevant?
And it wasn't 'out of court' it was a FL tribunal that set the fee.
And it was £1million.

Ha ha, I've just remembered, that 'jcdenton08' is the astute football brain, that started the poll, 'Is Robbie Savage the worst Brighton player in the last ten years'

Savage: The Poll - North Stand Chat

Ironic, non?
