Going to an away game with son when he was 6/7 he spent the whole time walking to the ground picking up elastic bands. He had a creditable collection by the time we got to Loftus Road. Kept him happy at very little expense to the tax payer.

Were useful at school for the 'fart machine'. Better on plastic chairs rather than wooden, but helped those long Biology lessons.

Why do the posties drop them? Are they biodegradable (probably not)?

Isn't it a litter crime?

I pick them up when I see them and take them home - I've got a draw full.

Must be a national epidemic as they do the same round here in the heart of England - I too, pick them up and save for later ...

I thought, a bit like white dog shit, this practice of discarding rubber bands was a remnant memory of my seventies childhood and no longer took place.

I love hedgehogs too. We have some resident hedgehogs in our garden but they are very elusive. Only ever spotted them once. Their monster poos and barking/snorting at night are a give away to their existence.

I am very careful with my rubber bands
