.. but the Government are going to take on the pension liability.

Let's hope they get a good price for it then.

That is a joke surely, about the biggest of the lot on pensions so hardly prudent

And they'll probably rob the £26 billion in assets off the pension fund too.

If they want to privatise Royal Mail they can't sell it with an £8.4 billion pound pension deficit can they? No private company would buy another company that had that much debt.

Yes but this time they mean it as the cupboard is bear and pockets are empty.
It probably wouldn't be happening so soon into this government, if the last one hadn't tried it late into their reign.

Can you remember what the Tories did last time they where in power? They sold off the railways, and can you remember what an absolute joke it turned in to and still is.

I predict the same thing to happen to Royal Mail.

Royal mail desperately needs dragging into the 21st century either way. Bloody awful service, always a mile long queue in town and not enough staff, and the ones that are there don't seem to give a f***.

The tories are just carrying on with what Peter Mandelson proposed and would have brought about if Labour had stayed in office.

really dont see the point, especially if the government keeps the pension liability/debt. it will be mandated to maintian a universal service so wont be able to be properly competitive.

All the royal mail moaners - and there are thousands throughout the country aint seen nothing yet. Universal service will be the first thing to go as any buyer will only want to take the profit making parts on and the rest will go to the wall. So many areas are non profit making and it is keeping these parts going that hampers royal mail but it is obliged to do so under it's licence. Get used to a very expensive to use service in the future

Royal Mail Counters is entirely separate from the delivery side and that part isnt being sold off:
