Shouldn't you all be at work instead of waiting at your houses for when some post might turn up and then logging the time?

Working from home is very 21st century :)

Oh and the post has just arrived and the postie apologised as he handed me the mail, gave me a very reasonable explanation and now I feel bad for slagging posties off ...

yet another binfest - having a go at the posties. Its not their fault the delivery of mail through you letterboxes is all f***ed up. The culprit is Royal Mail , now with a gung ho macho management style. Industrial Relations seems to no longer be in their dictionary , all the incentives have gone including informal or local agreements that kept the workforce happy for many years and avoided problems with morale. The reason your mail is delivered later is because the duty patterns have altered , so no unsocial hours premium allowance is paid as there are no early morning starts. After sorting , meal breaks have to be observed , whereas in the past it was straight out to delivering, get the job done and take the breaks at the end of the shift. Our post gets here anytime up until 3pm , with no post sometimes for 3 days and then a pile the following day.

I don't think the staff like it at all. the three postmen/women/lesbians that deliver to our buildings all hate the new rules. Pretty sure they are being made to work like that.
Do you have 9 posties delivering ? Or only 3 ? If there are 3, is one a man , one a straight woman and the other a lesbian ? Or are they all lesbians who are really butch ?

My postie has just delivered the mail at 14.15. I live in central Brighton and it always used to arrive around 8.30 - 9.00.

Still delivered with a smile.

Glad you said that, as I couldn't be bothered.
All I will say is that it will get a lot worse before it even looks like getting better.
Then you really will have something to complain about.

You make it sound like we shouldn't be expecting any sort of decent service even though we pay for it, seems a widespread attitude these days though.

People will be really pissed off if the mail service is like what happens in other countries around the world. Like no delivery to the door , having to go to the main post office/delivery centre to pick up your mail. Paying for the privilege of having a PO Box number at the postoffice/delivery centre. Only being able to pick up your mail at certain restricted hours of the day (sorry that already happens now if you need to pick up that undelivered small packet).

You don't pay for the service, unless you are either Rupert Murdoch or Mr Tesco, as they have definately paid my wages this week, for the record you are no longer the customer, you are the customer of our customer.

3 rounds, in my office, will not have a postie this summer.
That work will be spread across the rest of the staff.
This is being brought in, in such a small way, it will work OK.
Therefore next summer it will be for a little longer and perhaps a few more rounds.
And so on, it's not Leighton/Crozier's fault, they are just doing their job, for which they will be hansomely rewarded.
BUT the consequence of having 2 hatchet men in charge will result in the slow demise of RM.
That is just 1 issue.

How does that work then? I pay for the mail I send, the person who sends me mail pays for it. How can we not be the customer?

It did induce a loud 'you what', when our manager said that, cos we don't agree.

Basically as your stamp money doesn't even come close to paying for the service that the letter gets, it doesn't really matter.
RM could function well enough without Mr X sending a birthday card to Mrs Y.
Which is why TNT or DHL will NEVER deliver door to door post, but if Mr Murdoch, our customer, said no more RM, we'd be up a creek with no paddle.
Then TNT would fill there boots and you'd have postie wars!.

I'll stay quiet then.
Some might know better than me.

But as a test, for the next week keep and seperate all your envolopes. Grouping them as per the top right hand corner.
I assure you your biggest pile will be the one with the letter M in said corner.
I don't think I delivered a stamp on Monday, and I had nearly 100kgs of post.

To any posties on here? Does mail posted 1st class get to the dstination quicker than 2nd class. I now only buy 2nd class stamps and answer the letters that I receive the day I receive them and then send all of the replies 2nd class.

We (RM) are duty bound to deliver 1st class mail the next day.
I'm not sure of the percentage delivered figures, but they are pretty good.
You certainly aren't going to get better in the world, (which is why it makes it so gauling, to see it being ripped apart).

Anyway I think 2nd class is something like 'within 5 days' (once again I may be wrong and will quite happily stand corrected), but as a rule 2-3 days will cover it, so with a prompt rely you should be laughing.
