Saw the Reading set on telly after the game on Saturday. Pretty impressive. Was trying to work out how the singer manages both lead guitar and bass guitar from the same instrument. Has he got some magic gizmo/foot pedal combo that lets him to do that?

Ben's pedal board:

Fuzz/distortion comes from a ZVex Mastortron (blue pedal bottom right)
Octaves from a pair of Electro Harmonix POG2's (red jobbies on bottom row)
Further pitch-shifting from two Boss Harmonists (blue pedals top row)
Signal path through these from a Boss LS2 line selector (left middle top row)
Palmer Triage (green bottom left) selects which signal goes to which amp

Wow - that's a lot of pedals for a drummer! I'd be fascinated to see Mike's... :p

First saw them on Later with Jools a while ago and they blew me away, as a bass player I was knocked out with the sounds he gets from his set up and whilst handling lead vocals as well. Then discovered the Brighton connection which kind of tops it.

I downloaded the album off the back of this thread and have just finished listening to it on the train home. Thank you NSC for the recommendation, it's a great album.

One great thing that's been happening is that because it's known that Ben is a Brighton fan, it's become a thing for RB fans to chant "Seagulls" at gigs. Genuinely, was at a gig of theirs in London the other day and as they walked on they were serenaded by it. Great stuff.

If I was getting their level of exposure I'd find it hard not to wear something Albion on stage, even just a pin badge or something equally subtle that wouldn't compromise the band's image.

In related local rock star news I spotted Dave Gilmour and his missus striding at speed along Hove prom this afternoon.

Football and music rarely works well together though.

Blimey - wouldn't fancy having to turn all those off and on again!

I really like what I've heard so far which is two songs. I will check them out further. Is the Arctic Monkeys connection via the Monkeys touring member/friend who lives in Brighton?

Check out Blood Red Shoes- another 2-piece from Brighton

Saw them a few years back supporting (the fabulous) Metric at the Concorde 2. Thought they were pretty good.
