why did they change the name of Devil's Dyke when they've kept all the other names?

Apparently because it was a murder scene in the programme and they have to be careful about using real venues for that sort of thing. Likewise, some names have been changed from the books to prevent complaints from real people who could be said to resemble that character.

Agree with all of the above plus we are fed up with the character of Graces’ uniformed boss. She seems to spend all her time either following Grace around like a lap dog or standing around in corridors with her hands in her pockets. If she had an office and a desk she could do some work of her own.
Great shots of Brighton though, but the wreckage of the West Pier has probably been over used. Brighton has so much more to offer.

Indeed, and as soon as those rusting iron girders that were once part of the West Pier are dug up and disposed of the better.

Though perhaps that should be the subject of a new thread. Care to start one anybody?

He was angry at Grace as he had called him something like an evil piece of scum, so he tried to kill his girlfriend to punish him. Took me a while to work that out too.

I actually enjoyed this episode more than the other two, despite it being the weakest storyline. I thought it was filmed better

Have greatly admired John Simm ever since I saw him in the BBC drama The Lakes in the late 1990s, and then in Life on Mars.

He's also always seemed like a really decent, down-to-earth, guy in interviews.

He was brilliant in Human Traffic too. Excellent film, 23 years old though... blimey

Watched it yesterday out of mild curiosity for Sussex locations. It was even worse than the books, if that were possible. Dreadful. Simm is far better than this.

O/T - Agreed. I really wanted the West Pier to be saved and it wasn't; it burnt down and they built the i360 on the site of the landward end. Those rusting girders are simply an eyesore and make Brighton look a bit like a decaying post-industrial town circa 1985.

And yeah, should be a discussion/thread in its own right as I know others will disagree. Something to have when the football season finishes?

O/T - That's always the way when you know an area, the film-makers chose the best shots rather than slavishly follow the local geography. I worked in the West London area in the early 80s and the locals were always moaning about 'Minder': "George and Terry were walking down such-and-such street, then they turn the corner and suddenly they're in so-and-so road which is three miles away!"

I also remember when 'Quadrophenia' came out. I saw it in the cinema. There's a shot in there of Eastbourne, taken from the hill to the west. (It's a good view as you can see the whole town laid out). The Mods have all paused, then one of them says "There's Brighton!" At which point a voice a few rows behind me boomed out "****ing thick Mods are well ****ing lost if they think that's Brighton!"

It was more like Brighton than the one in "The Damned United" though.

I like to think of them as a lasting legacy of how little the West Pier Trust have done down the years and how much they have taken in salaries while they did nothing.
