Pub is full of the worst kind of toffs and knobheads anyway. Worst pub in the village hands down.

You're joking aren't you?! It's an excellent pub! And Rottingdean has two Greene King pubs!

What makes you say that.... Is it the mustache & Goatee combination or the "look we have indoor ivy therefore we are an eco / cool hipster twit kinda pub"
They're hops FFS.

Brighton factually.....
That's mental, my colleague literally just booked a table for 8 for lunch there on Friday!

Cool...

You can rip the "Ivy" down on the way out then in disgust for getting turned away....

Unless of course you have told them its a works leaving party...

TT Landlord, The Elixir Of The Ouse, draught perry for when things get stupid - a fine selection. I feel a seasonal visit coming on.

It's still slightly unsettling though: at my Rottingdean drinking peak some years back, no-one under the age of 60 would have been seen dead in there.

Given they say in the article their largest table seats 10 then I dont see a problem...
As long as chantelle behaves herself

The Queen vic is a decent pub. In rottingdean at the moment the white horse is geared up more for chantelle from accounts (having had the misfortune of being there one night when the year 1 mums at a local school had their chase anything in trousers night)

A couple of pints in the Vic followed by a night in The White Horse it is then. Better remember to splash on the aftershave I guess.

How's The Coach House these days? I used to work in there around 1985.

Rottingdean pubs are cyclical. Black horse used to be great, white horse was once the place to be, plough was a run down dive and so on.

Good on them. I used to avoid Christmas pissups/parties/dinners at my last long term employer like the plague. It was bad enough working with some of them, let alone socialising. Give most of them a few shandies and they turned into the biggest & loudest embarrassing bores you ever wanted to meet. Add to that, many were Chelsea or Man U 'supporters' via Sky TV and golf bores bullshitting about their handicap plus other banal boring blah de blah. You all getting the picture? True to form, one or more would make idiots of themselves. One particular incident involved an office girl sticking her boobs in the face of a manager. All kicked off as Mrs Manager was there!

As mentioned earlier, many of them were once a year bods and maybe the highlight of their year, It would be a topic of conversation for them right through January.

Thanks for the invite - Think I'm busy that night.........

Queen Vic is my local these days, best pub in the village for me.

Black Horse used to be brilliant and I'd go in there almost every day. Haven't been back since the current owners took my mate's money for a round and then wouldn't let us drink them because we'd arrived too late or something. Was very odd.

Why knobheads?

Ok maybe knobheads to describe the regulars is a bit strong. My personal gripe with the place is they refused to serve a good friend of mine purely because they didn't like the look of him (he has a big scar down his face from a scooter accident).

That said those that are in there look like the 'considerably richer than yow' geezer from The Harry Enfield Show.

Back before the current owners and renovation I loved the place. Especially the closed off section with the pool table. Used to land there straight after closing at The Spanish to crack on until at least 1.30 am. Since they've 'gentrified' it's been shit in my opinion.

You say Hops... I say Ivy....

reckon you'd have some complaint if you were served a Ivy infused barley fermentation, rather than your favorite hopped beer.

that said there's no excuse for the beard.

I think its our ages and our preferences that change .....

Yep lots of strange stuff like that. They took a booking for a family meal for someone's 80th and then cancelled it the day before as they had a wedding. The booking was taken after the wedding had been booked and no issue had been raised for weeks

Took my friends money then told him he wasnt allowed to drink them as he was barred despite the fact he had never been barred from there. Police ended up being called and landlord wouldn't tell the police or my friend any details.

There are 4 or 5 more stories like this

If he'd let us have our money back would have been less of an issue but to take the best part of £20 and then say you can't drink the pints or have a refund was very bizarre. Stupid as well frankly as it's cost them money in the long run as we'd have been back plenty of times otherwise. Oh well, their loss is the Vics gain.
