I see the Torquay Chairman has also decided enough is enough and they are all up for sale ( including the club)

Betson has done a great job in keeping them in the league for so long. They have been over achieving for quite sometime. Shame, but I do not think they will ever return to the football league or at least not in the near future.

I think we'd all have taken a 10 point deduction every season if we could have retained the Goldstone

I think it's a shame that Torquay have finally gone down, after several narrow escapes.

When- with all due respect- the bigger clubs, like Carlisle, Oxford etc go down, you feel that after a bit of consolidation, they have the facilities and the support to make a decent challenge for promotion back to the Football League the following season.

But I just can't see how the likes of Torquay, with heavy debts and crowds of 1500 a week, can ever again build the momentum to mount a promotion push. Half the clubs in the Conference probably have bigger budgets and support than Torquay already. Sadly for them, I can see them fading into obscurity, at best treading water in the Conference like Exeter, or at worst heading to the brink of insolvency, a la Scarborough.

Withdean is effectively a 10-point [at least] penalty anyway.

Didn't Baadiff sign some players on loan a couple of years ago - and then immediately apply to the Football League for a grant to help pay their wages? That deserves a points deduction...

something like that - but that was before these rules came in, and they never entered administration so would not of been docked points anyway

Harsh on us, although I'm biased.
The ex-chairman (a loony property developer) ran up debts as he wanted to close us down - then he could bulldoze the ground, sell it for a massive profit.

Going into admin was the ONLY step left to us to force control of the club off him.

The FA and FL 'rules' aren't there to protect clubs, they protect the status quo.

I agree. The Wrexham situation was different.
