If he has a chance of being fit, take him along with four others.

thought that would be the unnanimous response but wanted to see if people agreed. although if u remember beckham at japan he wasnt as gd as he could be but certainly seemed like a good influence

Won't be popular with my opinion, but if he isn't fit then he shouldn't go. The press will be obsessed with his 69th Metasaurus or whatever is wrong with his foot and this will put unnecessary pressure on the rest of the team. Look a little closer to home and our very own Chippy who was rushed back into the team before he had regained full fitness, the amount of abuse levelled at him and the club (mostly on these pages) has been amazing.

I would prefer that we went to the World Cup with a fully fit squad, even if that meant leaving a player of Rooneys' calibre sat at home, imagine how much damage could be done to his future career if he were to aggrevate the injury because he was brought back to soon. I would rather have him back for the Euro Champs and future World Cups than lose his talent forever. Nobody seriously thinks we are going to win the World Cup, do they?

We took a half-fit Beckham to the last WC and he cost us a goal against Brazil.

Rooney has even less time to get fit, I can't see the point of wasting a place in the squad for someone whose fitness is in doubt. If he's out for a long as he was last time, then he wouldn't even be fit for the final.

And I'd bet Man U would stop Sven picking him if there was any risk at all.

Don't take him as there is hardly any chance that he would be fit, and he would be a waste of a squad member.

At least we got further than those Scotland-land skirt wearers.

If you can get him to the point where he's technically fit by the beginning of the tournament, then I think he's a gamble worth taking.

We don't particularly need him for our group games. We should be capable of not conceding against any of them and we have enough firepower to score, so we should progress comfortably enough.

The second round games will be on either the 24th or 25th. Just over two weeks since the beginning of the tournament. Hopefully he should be fit by then. Put him on the bench, give him 20-25mins and see how he is for the quaters.
