What's wrong with Darren Bent? At the moment is the best English striker and should be starting but Capello is a mug and starting Crouch.

Bent is not international class, simple as. Nowhere near. Did you see him on Monday at Blackburn ? Absolutely woeful. He might bag a few against the lesser lights in the Prem, but he is not, and never will be, an international class striker.
Not that Crouch is a worldbeater either obviously, but he does bring something in the way of freak value and has knocked a few in.

I wouldn't want to see Rooney retire, but I'd like to see him dropped when he does go out of form, basic football coaching that doesn't seem to apply to "elite" England players.

I often wondered if the manager actually picks the squad, or if the old fuddy-duddys in the FA tell the manager who to pick.
A discussion we had earlier was about Beckham not being picked 'coz of his age. With an Italian manager that isn't a reason you'd expect to hear. Look at the Italian squad and some Italian teams and age doesn't come into the selection. Italian manager for England suddenly becomes ageist?! Or is the the back room staff?!?
