ROOM 101 - Clapping in the cinema

I seem to remember seeing a thread on here about what you would nominate for Room 101, but despite a search I can't find it.

But I have an urgent addition for my Room 101 and it is
PEOPLE WHO CLAP AT THE END OF A FILM IN THE CINEMA

I saw Slumdog Millionaire down the Odeon last night and the place was absolutely packed. Regardless of what I thought of this film which has grabbed a load of awards this week, can anyone explain quite what makes some people start clapping at the end?

I think they hope everyone recognises them as someone who appreciates the "art" or "direction" or some other pompous bollocks. Twats. Admittedly there were no more than half a dozen or so, and they soon shut up (and presumably went very red) when they realised they were not starting off a tidal wave of emotional celebration.

No quite as infuriating as traffic lights on roundabouts  but clapping in the pictures must be outlawed.

But these days, when most people have huge TV screens, why bother go to the cinema - unless for some social interaction.:clap::clap:

Worse is when people clap after lectures - all uni-folk will understand this!

Yeah that is really annoying, especially because it's always embarrassing as it's really half-arsed.

With the cinema, I don't agree in principle, because if it's really a spectacular film it's a nice spontaneous way of appreciating the film. The problem is, most cinema-goers are idiots, and the films that I've been at that people have clapped at have included Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (shit) and Spiderman 3 (shit).

I never experienced this or anything like it. That either says something about our lecturers or your students (or perhaps vice versa...)!

It's our students this year - they're all a bunch of arse-licking annoying suck-ups who regularly do nothing but annoy me!!

Why do cinemas sell confectionery and snacks in rustley bags? Some people just rustle their way through the whole damn film.

And worse, wankers that talk the whole way through. Totally selfish arseholes.

Are you talking regular curriculum lectures, or those lectures where people visit the university to present their work? I don't recall anyone applauding regular lectures when I went. But the visiting lecturers did.
