The one man on the planet who could give Scott Parker a run for his money in the cardigan stakes.

What about Val Hooligan.

I don't care if the other 2 out perform him on titles won

At his absolute best he was something else. Glided across the court and would just bat away forehand winners down the lines as if he was swatting away a fly. Phenomenal.

I would normally want the favourite of a tournament to lose to make it interesting. That wasn't the case with Roger. I wanted to see him play as much as possible and for his talent to be rewarded.

Just to play devils advocate, although most Nadal's slams were at the French, he did beat Federer in his pomp in 2005, considered the greatest final, but also, to do it after winning at Roland Garros (because there is barely any time to recouperate) is a monumental acheivement, especially as a clay court specialist. That for me is greater than anything Federer acheived individually

Probably one of the best balanced athletes I have even seen. He moved around the court with a feline grace and his usually calm demeanour hid a champion mentality. I liked him when I first saw him and that never diminished, even when he met Murray in the Wimbledon final ( 2012 ? ) when my sympathy for the distraught loser was tempered by the fact that the great man had won again.
He was aesthetically beautiful to watch. Even really aggressive shots had an air of grace about them. The world of tennis will miss him and the world of sport will miss him and I wish him a long and happy retirement.

Very pleasing on the eye as an athlete.

A net worth believed to be over £500million, according to various reports. Not too shabby.

His foundation has raised more than £40 million and educated 1.5 million children in Africa.

Prefer him to the other two anyway.

That's absolutely fair enough. I believe that was 2008?

I suppose it is (in a VERY simplistic way) a BIT like the whole Messi vs Ronaldo thing.

One athlete is a MACHINE of physical prowess, hard work, determiantion, maximising their body to their fullest (Nadal and Ronaldo)

The other camp feels like a more cultured, natural talent using the minimal effort but achieving beauty (Messi and Federer).

For me personally, I hugely respect Team Hard Work and how determination (plus talent obviously) can make you the best.

However, from my sofa, I just adore watching people like Federer who look like he's probably never seen a dumbell and just rolls out of bed and walks straight onto court before destroying people in his slippers.

But I complete appreciate the view that 'the other 2' are better than Federer. I just loved everything about the way he played and how hilariously easy he made it look. Did he ever sweat?

Oh he was the tennis players' tennis player, the connoisseur's, the purists. For that there is no doubt, like Prost in F1 or Ronnie in Snooker.

I guess sports fans are generally either those who appreciate the class and natural ability of the sportsman, and those who mostly focus on stats
