[Football] Rochdale on the brink...

Brighton
National League outfit Rochdale struggling with costs.

Cracking club, right on the doorstep of huge corporations like Manchesters City and United.

Hope they find their own Tony Bloom:

The most curious thing..
I've only been there once, sometime in the late 1980s

I think they were sponsored by the local garden centre at the time.

My home town club. I was born in Rochdale but my parents are from Brighton and we moved back when I was 2. Always look out for their results and have been to a few games. I still have family links to the town, my paternal grandmother was Rochdale born and bred too, so would be gutted to see anything happen to them.

A number of us on here, mainly old-school Seagulls Over Londoners, had a cracking visit to Rochdale around 25 years ago. It was a friend’s birthday, we co-sponsored the game, had a box and had a right laugh. We were properly looked after.

Sad to hear of their plight.

Shame, was it Rochdale at Withdean that ended up something like 4-3 or 3-4 and the rain was biblical?
We lost 4-3, we were in front and I’m still drying out now.

And I still wish them all the very best.

Didn’t we sign Glenn from Rochdale? If so, we all owe them one.

As others have said, proper local club and a ground I’ve always wanted to visit, along with Mansfield.

In sure they held the record for not being promoted or relegated (from what is now league 2) … could be wrong, but I’m sure that’s the case.

I think it was Rochdale that played at Withdean midweek on a terrible winter evening. Great admiration for about 10 away fans seated miles from the pitch

That was the 3-4 defeat mentioned above. Played on a Friday night in December as we couldn’t have a home Saturday game cause of the Xmas park and ride. Got to admire anyone who’d travel all that way for that view just before Christmas.

I was there. Their winner went in as I trudged back to the car, two and a half stone heavier than I arrived. Owing to waterage, seeping and osmosis.

A shame, good memories from there in the bad days, however sadly the locals already have a fair bit on their plate to deal with………

I’m sure their new local MP will have a laser focus on these critical local issues……….

Please don’t make people put this thread on ignore. The future of Rochdale FC is important to those of us who come here for the football.

Best corporate hospitality I’ve ever had, with Seagulls Over London and the late Paul Whelch, in December 1999.

We were at the time desperate to sign Lorenzo Pinnamonte permanently!

Different times 😂

Re The Dale, maybe now‘s the time to change the rules and one of the bigger clubs take the likes of Rochdale and others as a nursery club, almost a conduit between Academy and First Team Football?
