Again you aren’t comparing equals here, Hughtons exit you have to think was fairly well thought through with a candidate already in mind, much like Chelsea sacking Tuchel, they obviously had Potter in mind prior to the sacking.

Clubs often take a while to appoint a new manager when one is poached, as it’s unplanned, especially given we have a long period without a game.

I suspect Tony had decided to let Hughton complete the season but likely made the decision to sack him long before. That meant we may have had weeks looking at candidates then going for Potter. This time it’s come as a surprise so it maybe it’s taking the same time to work out a preferred candidate, just that this time it’s in the media eye, last time the search was before anyone knew we were needing a new manager. So it could be this time is shorter than Potter, we just don’t know it.

By all accounts the decision to sack Hughton was made after the Cardiff game, and the firing nearly happened that night but Bloom decided to let the season play out as he didn't see our fate changing by bringing in a new manager at that time, so Hughton got the last 5 games of the season but was a dead man walking.

Of course this gave us a month of planning for his departure, so, if the stories about the Cardiff game are true, from making the decision to get rid of Hughton to Potter taking charge was 5 weeks, but I am sure Potter was already on our watch list well before April 2019. Obviously we don't have that luxury of an incumbent manager and the end of season looming this time but with the club being so vocal about succession planning you'd have thought they'd have already identified a few lead candidates having known Potter was likely to be snapped up by someone sooner or later.

I actually think the Bournemouth and Palace games being postponed and then the International break has actually given us a bit more time and a chance to look at a few more candidates than we might have done. I'm fairly certain had the Palace game gone ahead we'd have appointed someone at the start of last week.

Just thinking that. The announcement needs to be tonight, especially as we’ve just let two of our big rivals pull a 4 point gap in the table today without so much as a response. This would go some way to quelling our fan-base.
