why did he have P.Kapnoc on the back of his shirt?

In Russian the only letters that are prounonced and sound the same as in in English are T,O,M,K and A. All other letters that look the same as an English letter have a different sound. Russian P is the same as our R.

K and a are the same as in english. What looks like a small n is pronounced L, O is the same as in english and what looks like a c to us is an S in Russian.

P.Kapnoc translates R.Karlos

Meopham, Kent.
I'm not dismissing the act, or trying to downplay it, but I think it's happened to Carlos multiple times in Russia because he shows it bothers him. It was an away game, and there will be an element of the crowd at every away game he plays that will want to upset the oppositions big name player. They now know he may even simply walk off the field in disgust. Sorry to say that will just bring on more of this in subsequent away games.

Carlos must be very grateful he wasn't playing in England in the late 70s and early 80s. He wouldn't have lasted long.

On the wider point of Russian football though, they clearly have a very big problem with racism, and they need to get a very serious grip on that before the World Cup comes to town, or we could be faced with scenes so appalling people will wonder how on Earth Russia ever won the bid in the first place.

Maybe that is the point. If he just ignores it (or tries to) the issue is kept under wraps.

If he walks off, his club get annoyed so complain (presumably) to their FA to sort the game out else the country will lose all the best players.

After all, I assume, their FA want to attract the best foreign players so need to clean up their game.
