Jesus!! 1 in 6 of you lot died!!

Did you forget your guns or something? Or was it deemed cruel to use dogs to look for mines so used the Irish?

I would have thought of 1 in 6 as being average to low for WW1, but then again I learnt about it from Blackadder Goes Forth :jester:

I can see why people might have the urge to display tributes but as I thnk someone mentioned earlier, would you really want the spot they died to be the place to remember them? IMHO I would rather keep the memories to myself. Sounds harsh but why would a person passing the memorial feel the same way the family does? Apart from the initial feeling of sympathy it holds no more. Then again, apart from the natural death of my grandparents I have never had to deal with grief like that so it is hard to put myself in their shoes.

For once you have posted sense. The only thing I think when I see flowers at the side of the road is "f***ing idiot, can't you follow a strip of tarmac" or "One less idiot on the road".

You are very anti car woodchip, I always notice you taking a very hard line on these type of threads. Out of interest do you drive?

I'm not anti-car. It's a great invention (for racing on a track) it's just the idiots behind the wheel of many of them. Drivers that look but don't see are the biggest bug-bear of mine.

I don't drive, but follow nearly all forms of motorsport.

Don't forget mate and others on here.

Often these flower memorials are there because pedestians have been run over.

Unfortunately we have 3 within 100m of our house, all involved children!

Normally, around my way, they are attached to fences/trees/ randomly in the middle of nowhere. Not many flowers stay in the town for 3/4 months until they are just an empty plastic bag.

Really? I always thought they were celebrations of a recent white dog poo discovery.

It's all getting out of hand. A small child tripped and grazed their knee at the bottom of my road yesterday. I walked to work this morning and came across this....

Why don't you go back to smacking your kids!!! I'm sure they've done something naughty that warrants it.

:bigwave:

maybe if your parents had smacked you and instilled some much needed discipline in your life , you wouldn't have grown up to be such a total retard ? ?

I was kidding man. Jeez, don't take it so seriously.

Still, looking at a bunch of dead flowers at the side of a road isn't going to make me mourn the loss of someone I never knew.

Has anyone considered that these semi-permanent shrines may end up killing someone? It's quite clear that where ever a roadside shrine is there is a possibility for an accident. QUOTE]

You are a bit of an idiot arn't you, and probably too young to be a driver.

If you ever drive past the scene of an accident (even on the opposite side of a dual carriageway) you will find that people instinctively slow down. Surely this is good for road safety.:bigwave:

What if that side of the road was a French subway and the flowers were arranged to spell the name "Diana" or "Mum" or "vacuous little sloane ranger adulteress"?
