Whether it was a red or not (and I think it wasn't), he would have booked him had Ramirez not pulled his sock down to show the injury.
Therefore, he let Ramirez make his decision for him.
Spineless weasel.

Wishful thinking. Serious foul play, i.e. using excessive force, is a red card offence...regardless of whether the player wins the ball. Breaking the skin like that clearly falls under that category.

That said, their player was wrong to swipe the yellow card out of Dean's hand. That shows a degree of weakness on the ref's part.
So a clash of heads means a sending off then....it was a 50/50 challenge end of.

Sorry, but that's complete bollocks. Breaking the skin FFS. Look, if Stephens gets the ball first and it's not reckless then it's an OK challenge. The guy chooses to not wear shin pads, then that's his fault. Accidents happen and it's a contact sport, so 'breaking the skin' is a risk of the game. Christ, go and play tiddlywinks or something if you don't want to risk an accidental injury.

Both good points, and I agree. I'm just calling it from a ref's perspective. Sorry.

surely his (ramirez) fault for not wearing protective shinpads !

Was Mike Dean wearing them, when he decreed it a YELLOW card, stood five yards from the incident (before spinelessly caving to the opinion of someone 40 yards away, and fan pressure)?

Joke and he's made a miraculous recovery he just strolled on the pitch. Meant to get these big game refs and he's been totally spineless today.

Are you seriously saying that was a red?

i'm seriously saying that those people claiming it was the worst decision they'd ever seen and that it wasn't even a foul are delusional.

for your information, i thought it was a yellow due to lack of intent but a foul nonetheless.

if it had been a Brighton player left on the ground with a hole in his leg the reaction on here would have been completely different.

So irritating that we're discussing yet another ref ****ing up.
The standard is so poor in this country. And the 'Premier' refs we've had have been the worst.
