Go to your local greengrocer, preferably in your local market if you can.
Better quality, better price, ripe ready to eat local produce, advice, and you are supporting a local small business.
I would not mind betting that their avacados are bang on too ( I do not like them so would not know)
See also fresh fish/shellfish/flowers.
I do not like supermarkets for many reasons so, if I can buy any of the above from a market, then I will.

Had both Kent and Sussex cherries this week which are fantastic at the moment. Kent ones from the stall out Firle way and Sussex from the stall on the way to Washington, who also had the first local plums today. Delicious and perfectly ripe. Nice red gooseberries as well.

I'm just eating a pear. Whilst reading about fruit. It's the complete package.

I've always fancied opening a greengrocers and calling 'A Great Pear !' or 'Cracking Melons' ..... guess I'm just childish.
