Paulie Cicero in Goodfellas, perhaps one of the most chilling performances of a Mafia capo regime.

Paulie Vario in Goodfellas, perhaps one of the most chilling performances of a Mafia godfather.

A tremendous actor, although like his Goodfellas alumni Ray Liotta got easily typecast into gangster roles. He was also very humble man, as seen by his reaction to his daugher Mira winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mighty Aphrodite. RIP
Point of order though - Paulie Vario, and the character Paulie Cicero in the film Goodfellas, was never a Godfather.
Vario was a Caporegime in the Lucchese crime family, with Henry Hill, Thomas DeSimone (Tommy Devito in the film) and James Burke (Jimmy Conway in the film) being soldiers in his crew. Although some creative license was taken to make the Cicero character look more powerful than his real life inspiration was.
They’re all getting whacked now.
Mr Sorvino very nearly quit just before the filming of Goodfellas started as he thought he was too much of a softie to play such a hardened character
RIP Paul
