What a great show that was, very typical of the pro worker shows that were craftily made at the time. Stephen Lewis, a lifelong socialist, designed his Blakey as a satire on shithouse line managers everywhere

Very sad. She played the downtrodden missus so well in On The Buses, not sure you'd ever get a character written like that again these days. But I loved the show.

Even in my childish innocence though, I STILL wondered how this bloke apparently attracted so much "crumpet" barely half his age. The bloke could eat an apple through a tennis racquet.

Ahhh, the 70s.

Bob Grant (RIP). He had a very sad death too. Committed suicide after a long struggle with depression after struggling to find work when On the Buses finished.
