Right Here, Right Now
Another of my childhood heroes has passed away.
Actress Carol Lee Scott who played Grotbags in Emu's World had died from cancer at the age of 74.

Yes I saw that on the BBC website, and it got me wondering whether this really should be front page news. It seems odd that some jobbing actress dying makes any sort of headline at all. I do get somewhat annoyed that the television industry really has such a high opinion of itself that someone only half-famous (amongst kids) 30 years ago makes the news now.

That is a bit mean really, Grotbags as a character is fondly remembered among people of my generation. For example...

It's not meant to be - I remember her well, reasonably fondly. It's just that it isn't really news, in my opinion, and the television news constantly elevates it's own to a level of importance that really isn't justified.

Put it this way - will we read about it on the front page of the BBC web site when a minor member of a band like Shawaddywaddy or Shalamar passes away?

Grotbags she was so mean to that Crocodile...

It would be considered bullying in this day and age, they certainly wouldn't be allowed to get away with it now.
