Breaking news that he has succumbed to throat cancer. A true innovator up there with other players like Hendrix. The man who brought tapping and the classic brown sound overdriven guitar tone to the masses. Even if his iconic Eruption solo on Van Halen's first album passed you by many will recall his stunning solo on Michael Jackson's hit Beat It.

I don't know if i'm remembering correctly, but wasn't Eruption used as part of Alan "Fluff" Freeman's Radio 1 Rock Show intro?
I first got into Van Halen when Sammy Hagar was the singer, DLR had gone by the time i was really getting into rock music in the mid eighties.
