An awful of that title winning side are no longer with us: Mulhearn, Pardoe, Heslop, Doyle, Young and now Bell are all playing in the great stadium in the sky. Pleased to see that the old man of the team, Tony Book, is still going strong.

That was a great team, from a time when a different club seemed to win the First Division every year.

Great player in a great team in those days - Colin Bell, Francis Lee, Tony Book, Mike Summerbee, Joe Corrigan - and future BHA striker Ian Mellor.

A quite superb player. Box to box midfielder, goalscorer and could play anywhere. Malcolm Allison played him as sweeper some games. I was always reassured when he was playing for England. He seemed to sweep us forward on that Wembley turf. Nijinsky was a high class racehorse and Colin Bell was a high class footballer. His energy, his skill, his balance and bravery would stand out in any era.

Although a bit before Colin Bell's time, Bert Trautmann has long been Man City fans biggest cult hero (along with Shaun Goater and Nicky Weaver) for what he went through in his life. A prisoner of war and carrying on with a broken neck in an FA Cup final.

I miss football from 1960-1995. I find myself watching more and more footage from that era of muddy pitches and full-blooded tackles. It was the people's game back then. God, I'm starting to sound old. :glare:

Players got into some decent scraps in those days too - the Franny Lee/Norman Hunter one was a particular gem

I read Norman Burtonshaws. - ‘Don’t shoot the ref’ and he wrotethat Bell never stopping haranguing him throughout a game, appealing for everything.going......... He didn’t like losing, wonderful player.

Top top player. One of the very best. I was a big fan of Colin Bell. Majestic on the ball. What would he have been worth today? Remember he played on the pitches of the 70s and made it look easy. RIP Colin Bell.
