RIP Sir Bob, a legend of the game. I will always recall you working your way through the Aussie 2nd innings at Headingly while sweating away at work.

Very sad news. It was him and Botham In 81 that made me want to play cricket. RIP big man

Whole generation of us I would say, not that I was any sort of cricketer but still just about love the game despite the farcical things the Authorities are trying to do to it...

Anyway RIP Bob

Gutted to hear this news, him and Botham talking about the 81 Ashes series a couple of days ago on the telly was great viewing, he had the driest sense of humour. Very sad.

Just heard about this on the radio..shocked I guess you think that icons from when you were young will just got on and on

Obviously always remembered for that Headingly test match ..I had the opportunity to watch a lot of that game and certainly all of that Oz second innings albeit on the box ..that big bushy hair .. mad stare and awkward run up ..the mans test record is awesome

Then as a pundit he said it as it was ..if u were crap he’d say so and if you were good he’d heap the praise ..will be missed a lot

Proper cricketer leaving a legacy. One of the few pundits who could talk from extraordinary experience. Stats say it all.
RIP big man.

Oh for the days when tests were on BBC1 or 2 all day and we could spend our summer
holidays glued to the telly.

Great man and I'm so very sad about this.

As with many others on here, I was a boy during Headingley 81.
That match made me fall in love with the game.

Very sad to see him go.

One of the greatest English fast bowlers. Very few have come close since.

A dull, cantankerous commentator and pundit. But an essential nonetheless. You never realise how much you're going to miss them until they are gone.

If it wasn't for Bob's Headingley heroics I may not have aspired to be a bowler or even care much for cricket at all.

He was so focused that day ..it was only his eighth and the last Aussie batsman where he really celebrated.

He looked scary just running up to bowl. Glad I didn't face him.
RIP thanks for the memories on the cricket field, and I enjoyed his no nonsense punditry as well.

Thyroid cancer got him apparently.

Radio said prostrate just now ....

Either way, the big "C" claims another victim
RIP big fella - I'm sure he's running in at the "Don" as I type
Botham's ashes owed a significant amount to big Bob's 8-fer

To lighten the mood, one of my fondest and funnyist cricket moments was Graham Gooch having a bowl, mimicking some the great bowlers of that era inc BW - everyone falling about with laughter ... must be on Youtube somewhere

Great bowler, great record and brilliant attitude, like many of the Aussie quickies in many respects. Recall seeing him at Hove with a run starting almost from the boundary at the olad Gilligan stand.

Sad news. Particularly shocking when your heroes die - and they're younger than you!

RIP Sir Bob.
