That's the only festive moment of comedy I can recall that made me laugh heartily.

RIP Rik - gutted when I heard - early teenage years spent watching Bottom and still have all the VHS' somewhere. Never laughed so hard at some of those moments and later in life seeing Bottom Live at The Brighton Centre - this and the Simpsons largely helped shape my sense of humour to this day. Drop Dead Fred, while not the best film, still showed off his impish character - great memories all round.

A true comedy legend who I grew up laughing the most with.

Not a big fan of the wailing and gnashing of teeth that always accompanies somebody who did their best work a quarter of a century ago and wasn't all that funny at the time (be honest!).

Have to agree with you here. Did find his material unfunny and repetitive. Still he was a massive part of television for me in my growing up days. He does come across as one of the good guys on tv. Quite shocked by this news.

RIP Rik.

Watched virtually everything he did in the 80s and 90s.
Also saw him live doing his one man show at Portsmouth guildhall in 1989 - I have never laughed so much in all my life (and that really is saying something as I don't take much of life that seriously). My face, chest, and stomach ached beyond belief from the laughter.
He will be missed greatly, but what a legacy to keep watching!
