Going down the town means London road

Going up the town means Western road

Going into town means any of the above

Going to Hove means just that

That 'Made In Brighton' book was an embarrassment. On multiple levels.

True, I never finished it. In fact I only got about a third of the way in.

I'm just wondering whether you believe Chichester deserves to be a city?

thats the point the fact somewhere deserves to be a city is ludicrous. i enjoy the historical aspect of city designation (i.e. LB's example and the fact chichester is a city but brighton wasnt) its quirky inconsistent and interesting. on the other hand i have found the entire city status clamour and consequent regular delusional references by the council, some prominent citizens (!) and other cheerleaders utterly cringy. i do understand the practical benefits of city status its not like the process went on under the radar is it.

I just find hilarious the effect that conferring City Status had on property prices. Seems to me that at that point the town gained a massive influx of exactly the sort of shallow fucks it deserved.

Is this correct? Was there a spike after city status? I thought house prices were (and arguably still are) out of control prior to this.

I like Brighton and Hove being a city because Croydon isn't.

The pikeys applied for City status, last time around, but the queen didn't think it was of city standard or appropriate. That lady has taste.
