He certainly did, and has been sailing close to the wind for some considerable time now. Still comes as a shock to hear the news though.

Plenty of people knocked what he, and Quo did, their style of music etc. but tens of thousands of fans around the world loved them. They can't all be wrong.

Didnt his lifestyle change way back perhaps the 80's, remember him having a heart bypass back then and saying how he will need to change, but I cannot be sure ..... RIP

My favourite quo story goes something like this:-

Right back in the day the band were staying in a European hotel.
They, rather excitedly, had got hold of a grumbleflick and projector.
But now they had a problem, the room was far too small for such a showing.

Eventually someone realised through the window there was a white wall, across the street.

Sure enough Quo are now watching a porno from their suite projected on the wall across the street.

Saw them a couple of times - what a show, I've rarely seen a band that got the crowd going so much. I saw them on their "farewell" tour ... 1984 I think it was !

Another real talent gone this year. This group we've lost makes a mockery of what most people call "celebrities" now.

Enjoyed their music even though it used to get a lot of unfounded criticism about the low number of chords used. Saw them three times live, last time was on the aforementioned tour and the venue - Selhurst Park! Got to go on the pitch as well.

At the end of the day he didn't live his life as a 9-5 grunt like 95%+ of us so the last laugh was his.

Nobody's wrong. I was no great fan, but loads of people were. Fair enough.

I saw them (via climbing in through the toilet window) at the Pier Pavilion in Worthing around 1972. The location reflects that the Quo were not in their pomp at his time. To be honest I was never a great fan of their music but they knew what they were and were - or gave a pretty good impression of being - very unpretentious at a time when others were most definitely not!

72 was when Piledriver was released and they became well known. Don't knock the venue though - back in those days the Worthing venues hosted all the big bands such as The Who so it was probably a good booking at the time.

As for the news, very sad as the recent reports were that he was recovering well from the latest heart troubles and had decided a nice gentle retirement was what he had chosen. Seems like it was an infection that got him in the end - you can only assume that given all his body has been through over the last few years, it just wasn't strong enough to fight back.

Saw the band on several occasions including what I consider to be my first proper gig at Selhurst Park on the End of the Road tour. Every time they were always good value for money and seemed to enjoy themselves. It was strange seeing them at the Brighton Centre a couple of weeks ago without Rick although they did a good job in covering for him.

The last 12 months have been crap for music if you start with the death of Lemmy. It's as if rock had a pact with God and Lemmy's passing opened the pearly gates for loads to follow. There must be one hell of jam going on up there at the moment.

Saw Quo at the Brighton Centre on their XX tour in 1982. Great gig, and decent year for the Albion too.

R.I.P Rick, a real rock legend.

At the end of my tether
Rick and Francis Rossi, two legends of British rock. I can hardly believe that he is gone....The end of an era. Truly the status quo of our music scene has been shattered . Of course I never knew the guy but I felt that he was one of us......

Sad news, not my sort of music but good value playing live.
I saw them back in the 70's and over here a couple of years ago at a music festival, they were still good live.
