Richie Towell has gone to Rotherham and done very well, by all accounts. He’s also in the picture for a full Ireland cap.
Hes probably not got enough for us but has shown he’s a very decent championship player. He’s got to be worth north of a million, but it looks like he will leave for nothing in the summer as his contract is up.
I don’t get it - why didn’t we cash in in January ?

We have an option on his contract to extend it by another year iirc? So even though it's technically up in the summer, we'd presumably extend it if we think we can get a fee for him then?

That's what happens when you don't progress as quickly as the club you are with are progressing

Look at Dale Stephens. He is no different. Dale played at lower levels when the club was at lower levels. If you progress at the same rate and prove yourself at the higher levels then you can travel with the club. If you don't then you won't.

Richie Towell had to drop down a level to get game time. Good players like Dale have stepped up to level Brighton are at now., If you don't step up you get left behind.

I thought this too but Towell said otherwise in a recent interview.
He's very confused it seems as Towell himself said in an Irish newspaper in the summer that there is an option on a further year for next season.

Maybe he has been told now that it is not being taken up ?

The problem with Towell is there is always the worry that the goals might dry up

I saw Towell play for Rotherham at QPR the other day and he was average at best. Semi Ajayi, on the other hand, was brilliant. Maybe they'd take a swap deal ...?

Stephens was proven at Championship level and was captain at Charlton (in the Championship) when we bought him, wasn’t he? Richie Towell Baby had no experience of anything like Championship football.
