RIP Richie.

RIP Richie

I see the Australian PM has offered his family the option of a state funeral - says it all for how well-regarded he was, to say the least.

Very sad news to wake up to.

One of the true greats of the game and will be sorely missed.

RIP richie.

My favourite all time 12th man commentary was his description of the New Zealand team and sniggering after ever name.

Him and Arlott both had the knack of making you feel that YOU were the reason why they were talking, or that you were part of a bunch of people just chatting about a game of Cricket. Phrase used all too frequently but in this case it is sooo merited. Morning Richie you absolute Legend.

Superb summariser of the game, knew when to talk and when to shut up, and never felt the need to shout. A bit like Stan Collymore on TalkSport.

On Botham in 1981........'never mind looking for that, let alone chasing it. It's gone straight into the confectionery stand and out again......'

Sad news, a gentle, understated master of cricket commentary. A voice from my youth that I shall never forget. RIP Richie.

I had to stop the car this morning and wipe my eyes when I heard the news on the radio.

Truly great cricketer, superb commentator and a gentleman of the highest order.

Very sad indeed.

Really saddened to read about it this morning; i only starting watching cricket in the late 90's/2000's and he was always there on BBC or C4 - i adored his soothing commentary and you felt like he was your knowledgable uncle - chirping in with relevant info only when you needed it and letting you concentrate on the game rather than him.

He'll be missed not just by anyone in cricket, but by anyone who watches sports and appreciates good commentary.

Sad news, great commentator, knew when not to speak as well. One of his best though was when Hughes (i think) stopped a streaker and Richie said "That's the only catch he's held today". Brilliant
