Richard Brodie 22 year old York City forward

2009-10 Starts 43 (sub 4) Goals 37 [goal per game ratio 1.3]
2008-09 Starts 34 (sub 9) Goals 17 [goal per game ratio 2.5]
2007-08 Starts 21 (sub 19) Goals 10 [goal per game ratio 4.0]

The Minstermen could face a battle to hold on to the 22-year-old forward (who has a year left on his contract) after failing to win a return to the Football League yesterday as Oxford United triumphed in an entertaining Blue Square Premier League play-off final.

Has steadily improved over the last 3 years, with only a year left on his contract York would be willing to listen to offers. Worth a punt?

My brother lives in York, and takes his lads along sometimes. They rate Brodie quite highly, but it is TWO divisions lower.

Didn't Holroyd do well in that division, and look how that turned out!

Charlie Austin signed from much lower than that, Wessex County League I believe! Beckford was from Conference South I think which is 3 tiers down

Score twice against Lewes in our shite season in the Conference the season before last. Good player in the Conference but whether he will cut it two leagues higher I don't know. Young player so might be worth a punt.

And yes I am one of the terrible away support there that day.

Steve Morison at Millwall came from lower leagues. Look at him now. You just have to take a risk sometimes. Unfortunately ours haven't worked out with Dixon and Holroyd (yet)

TBH Moro was a no brainer. He had been the top [or there abouts] scorer in the Conference for 3 years. But more importantly he led the line fearlessly & with strength. Plus he took stick but never complained & feigned injury. Millwall had a bargain for £150000 but Stevenage [from yesterday] FC retain a 25% sell on clause. Happily married & living in Bishop Stortford, playing for a London based club suited him. Strange how club scouts see things differently for I was working for Stevenage at the time he was there & every game for 2 seasons there were scouts from all divisions watching him week in & week out. Seeing him again in the play offs, playing exactly the role he excels in I think & hope he goes a lot higher.

Do not write Holdroyd off just yet, he is young & was bought as a future "prospect" so lets not get too opinionated just yet. I would be happy with this lad as working with Gus will bring the best out of him as it will Holdroyd given time. Lets not forget Gus has had a lot of other issues to sort out let alone being able to give time & attention to prospects. Everyone is a f***ing authority when it comes to putting a player down but lets just see a little more support because these lads will come right under Gus & his team.

I agree with you. According to the O.S. Holroyd made five starts and eight substitute appearances for B&HA in the season just ended. Anyone who thinks that is sufficient to judge him on is being rather premature. He may well turn out to be not good enough for League One, but it's far too soon to write him off yet. As you say, so many are so quick to make up their minds, be it about players or managers.

Really hope that we are gonna aim a bit higher than lower league "ones for the future" as we really are quite shit at picking unproven young players who mature into being anything but lower league journeymen

If I'm wrong give me one example other than Gary Hart in the last 10 years that we bought in.
