Reyes Last Night

Was shocking, wasn't he?

His passing, especially in the first half was atrocious and could hardly ever pick out a blue n white shirt, which is frustrating as we've all seen how good he is.

And then to top it off...that free kick! Gus was fuming! The way he lined up his body to take the shot it was never gonna go anywhere near the goal.

It was a bit frustrating at times last night but then you've gotta remember that we've taken 4 points from Cardiff this season and I'm pretty happy with that.

Looked overly ambitious in his passing in the beginning and lost possession quite frequently, thought he settled into the game alright though and looked sound enough defensively. Too early to judge just yet whether it's worth signing him at the end of the season.

The less said about the free kick the better.

The free kick was quite clearly Navarro's fault, didn't pass it anywhere near hard enough, leaving it on Reyes wrong foot. I'm certain Gus was fuming with Navs for not laying it off properly.

Because Lua Lua has smashed in a number of free kicks using that exact technique I'd imagine.

But...it was bad because of the lay off. He needed it outside of his right foot. As it was he was working from an impossible angle.

I was thinking this to myself last night. I've just not seen anything from him to justify keeping Calderon out of the side. The anger from Gus at the free-kick may just see him swap Reyes and Calderon around on Saturday. Personally, I think that would be the right move.

I don't get why we had the kerfuffle over the free kick. Surely this sort of decision is ironed out in training, not with the clock ticking down in the last minute of the game!

Yep, agree, it could be time to give Reyes a rest and start with Calde for the Pompey game.

It's obvious from previous performances that Reyes is quality but his passing last night was shocking.

Which begs the question why wasn't LuaLua in the squad? Seems madness to leave your main free kick taker and main game changer out, especially when you get a chance like that to win the game at the end?

For whatever reason, that free kick NEVER looked like it was going to work, even before we took it. I can't say why exactly, but I had no belief at all that laying it off to Reyes was ever going tow ork there. Whether it was the guy looking to rush from teh wall who clearly knew exactly what was planned, or whether reyes was looking jumpy and riggity about where he was lining it up. I can't be sure, but my feeling all along was hitting it was the wrong move.

Noone and Buckley are just as much game-changers as Lua Lua.

But even then, your point doesn't get to the nub of the matter. Why should any given player be labelled a 'free-kick specialist' when as professionals, they should all know how to shoot accurately?

I know what you mean. It was bizarre. Navarro seemed very stressed out by the whole situation.
